What happened to Disney channels on YouTube TV?
YouTube TV temporarily lost Disney-owned networks when its carriage agreement with Disney expired. The affected lineup included ESPN networks, Disney Channel, FX, National Geographic and ABC. Disney described the new agreement as restoring its full linear network portfolio, though local ABC availability depends on the subscriber’s market.
The blackout affected more than sports. Subscribers could also lose access to news, children’s programming and general entertainment carried on Disney-owned networks. A trade report counted 21 affected networks; the list included ABC and some local ABC stations, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, SEC Network, ACC Network, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, Freeform, FX, FXX, FX Movie Channel, National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild, ABC News Live and Localish. Cablefax’s affected-network report notes the dispute’s network scope; local station impact varied by market.
Blackout timeline
- October 23, 2025: Disney warned that its channels could be removed if the companies failed to reach a new agreement before the existing one expired. Axios reported on the negotiations.
- October 30, 2025: The agreement expired and Disney-owned programming went dark on YouTube TV. The Associated Press reported the blackout.
- November 11, 2025: YouTube TV announced a potential $20 credit for affected subscribers while the channels remained unavailable. The company’s support announcement described the offer.
- November 14, 2025: Disney and YouTube TV announced a multi-year agreement, and restoration began. Disney’s agreement announcement said its linear portfolio, including ESPN networks and ABC, would return.
The blackout lasted more than two weeks. The published dates do not establish a uniform restoration time for every channel or local ABC station, so it should not be described as exactly 15 days. The AP’s report on the agreement describes the dispute’s end.

Why did the companies disagree?
The immediate cause was the expiration of a distribution agreement. The dispute concerned the commercial terms for YouTube TV to continue carrying Disney’s networks and related services. Neither side publicly disclosed the complete financial terms of the failed negotiations in the cited statements.
Disney said YouTube TV was resisting market-rate terms and rejecting flexible proposals. YouTube TV said it was seeking fair pricing and more flexibility, and argued that the terms should not disadvantage subscribers or primarily benefit Disney’s own products. What the agreement restored—and what it did not guarantee
Disney said the agreement restored its full linear network portfolio on YouTube TV. Local ABC stations were described as returning progressively, so an individual subscriber’s experience could differ by market or timing. The agreement is multi-year, not a permanent guarantee against future carriage disputes.
The deal also included plans for YouTube TV subscribers to access ESPN’s direct-to-consumer Unlimited service at no additional cost. That is separate from carriage of the linear ESPN networks: the agreement announcement alone does not establish that every subscriber can activate Unlimited now or explain the current access process. Check YouTube TV or ESPN’s viewing information for current availability and event coverage.

YouTube TV said recordings, library items, preferences and recommendations were expected to remain intact during the dispute and restoration. If a channel or recording is missing, check the account and guide before assuming the content was deleted.
What happened to the $20 credit?
YouTube TV offered a one-time $20 credit, not a permanent reduction in the monthly subscription price. According to the company’s support announcement, directly billed subscribers could claim it through YouTube TV settings, while some subscribers billed through a third party would receive it automatically. Eligibility also depended on account status. The stated redemption deadline was December 9, 2025, so the offer is no longer available under that announcement; former subscribers should not count on receiving it if they rejoin.

If ESPN, ABC or another channel is still missing
A carriage dispute is not a router problem: restarting equipment could not restore channels during the blackout. Now that the agreement has been reached, these checks can help distinguish an account or guide issue from local station availability.
- Confirm that your YouTube TV subscription is active.
- Search the Live Guide for ESPN, ABC or the Disney network you expect to see.
- If you use a custom Live Guide, check whether the channel is hidden.
- Reset the Live Guide to the default lineup if needed.
- Restart the YouTube TV app or streaming device.
- Sign out of YouTube TV, then sign back in.
- Check local ABC availability for your ZIP code; an ABC affiliate’s carriage can vary by market.
- Contact YouTube TV support if the channel remains absent after those checks.
Alternatives depend on what you watch
There is no single substitute for every channel and event. Compare the exact network or program you need, the local station available in your market, and whether a service includes the live event rather than only on-demand content.

For an ABC-only household, check antenna reception before paying for another live-TV bundle. For sports, identify the specific game and network first: ESPN, ESPN+, ESPN Unlimited and an ABC broadcast are not interchangeable labels. For Disney entertainment alongside live television, compare the actual bundle contents rather than assuming every Disney-owned channel or feed is included.
If you canceled during the blackout
Before restarting YouTube TV or choosing another provider, verify local-channel availability and current terms. Rejoining may require checking whether an introductory offer is available, rebuilding a custom guide, re-adding add-ons and signing back in on devices. Do not assume old recordings remain accessible after account reactivation or that the expired 2025 credit will be applied.
