There is no reliable evidence that the original service has relaunched, so treat any site claiming to be the official ETTV as unverified.
If you are looking for a replacement, the options below cover different needs: finding a title, watching free ad-supported programming, borrowing through a library, renting a single release, or streaming current shows through authorized services. None replicates ETTV’s unauthorized catalog.
What was ETTV?
ETTV, short for ExtraTorrent TV, was both a release operation associated with TV and movie uploads and a website that published torrent links. It began within ExtraTorrent in 2011; after ExtraTorrent closed in 2017, ETTV and related groups launched a separate portal. TorrentFreak’s history of ETTV and its report on the groups’ new site describe that transition.
The name also appeared on releases distributed through third-party indexes. An old ETTV-labelled file or scraped page therefore does not prove that the original website is operating.

Why did ETTV shut down?
ETTV’s official and backup domains went offline in January 2022, along with its status page and upload activity. On February 6, the administrator, known as “sidekickbob,” confirmed an indefinite shutdown and said he could no longer fund the site and its upload bots. The operation had also been unstable after its original operator disappeared, and the replacement administrator had not planned to run it permanently. TorrentFreak reported the January disappearance; its February report quoted the administrator’s explanation.
ETTV operated in a legally risky environment, but the available shutdown report identifies lack of funds—not a specific court order, raid, or law-enforcement seizure—as the immediate reason given. Calling the shutdown a confirmed seizure would go beyond the reported facts.
Is ETTV coming back?
No reliable relaunch of the original operation is established. The administrator said the domains would not be renewed, and the original service should be treated as defunct. Old files, mirrors, copied databases, and pages using the ETTV name can remain online without being connected to the former operators.

Are ETTV mirrors and clones safe?
A domain using ETTV’s name or logo is not evidence that it is official. A copied design, a “verified” badge, or a claim of a comeback does not establish who runs the site or whether its files are trustworthy. The evidence available here does not identify a current official ETTV domain.
- Do not install an app, browser extension, codec, or executable offered by an unverified torrent page.
- Do not enter passwords, payment details, or an email address on a site you cannot authenticate.
- Treat aggressive browser-notification requests, multiple misleading download buttons, and unexpected redirects as warning signs.
- Ad blockers and antivirus software can reduce some exposure, but neither verifies a website nor guarantees a file is safe.

1. JustWatch: find a title across legal services
Best for: Finding where a specific movie or show is available to stream, rent, buy, or watch free. JustWatch is a discovery directory, not the service that plays every title. Its listings vary by country and change as licensing changes. Start at JustWatch when you know what you want to watch.
2. Tubi: free, ad-supported viewing
Best for: Watching movies and TV without a subscription. Tubi is a legal, ad-supported option, but its catalog rotates and may not include current premium series. Availability differs by location and title. Visit Tubi.
3. Pluto TV: live channels and on-demand programs
Best for: A no-subscription, channel-based experience, with some on-demand content. Its scheduled channels offer less control than an on-demand service, and current premium series may not be available. Advertising is part of the service. Visit Pluto TV.

Renting or buying can make sense for an occasional title, though repeated purchases may cost more than a subscription. 7. Official streaming and broadcaster services: current series
Best for: Current episodes, reliable playback, and official release schedules. Depending on the title and region, services such as Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Max, Prime Video, or Apple TV may carry it. The trade-offs are subscriptions, advertising on some plans, regional licensing, and titles moving between services. Search JustWatch first, then check the provider’s own listing; no single service has every show.

What if a title is not on a subscription service?
- Search the title on JustWatch, including rental and purchase options.
- Check an authorized digital store such as Fandango at Home.
- Look for access through Kanopy or Hoopla if your library or university participates.
- Check whether a library has a DVD or Blu-ray copy, or whether the disc is available to buy.
- If the title still does not appear, it may not be licensed for viewing in your country at the moment. Being absent from one subscription service does not mean it is unavailable everywhere legally.
What about legal torrenting?
Torrent technology is a way to distribute files; legality depends on the material, authorization, and applicable local law. It is used for authorized distribution of Linux systems, open-source software, public-domain media, creator-approved files, and some institutional datasets. Do not assume a movie or TV torrent is authorized simply because it is easy to find. Unauthorized sharing of copyrighted work can create legal risk, which varies by jurisdiction.
