What did Pras Michel accuse Lauryn Hill of?
Michel filed the complaint on October 1, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. It named Hill and MLH Touring, Inc., which the complaint describes as Hill’s wholly owned touring company. The complaint asserted fraud in the inducement, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, accounting, refusal to permit an audit, unjust enrichment, and declaratory judgment claims. The dispute concerned Fugees tour business, including the 2023 tour and plans for a 2024 tour connected to the 25th anniversary of Hill’s solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Michel alleged that contractual terms were unfair, tour money was handled opaquely, and the tours were mismanaged. Michel’s lawsuit reportedly said Hill rejected a $5 million offer for a Fugees appearance at Coachella because of billing concerns. How did Lauryn Hill respond?
Hill denied Michel’s allegations. The Associated Press reported that she called the suit “baseless” and “full of false claims and unwarranted attacks.” She also said Michel’s complaint left out alleged overpayments and loans totaling $3 million. Those financial claims, like Michel’s, remain attributed statements rather than a court’s resolution of the disputed accounts. Associated Press
Hill said the 2023 tour was planned as a celebration of her solo album and would have gone ahead with or without the Fugees. That differs from Michel’s account of the tour arrangements and his role in their finances. Associated Press

Why was the 2024 tour canceled?
The planned 2024 tour was called off three days before it was due to begin. The available reports place the cancellation amid the disagreement over tour arrangements, but do not establish a judicial finding about who was responsible or whether either party breached an agreement. Reports published in March 2026 say Michel moved on March 11 to dismiss the action without prejudice. The reported terms were that each party would pay its own expenses, costs, and attorneys’ fees. Coverage published April 30, 2026, also describes the suit as dismissed without prejudice. “Without prejudice” means the dismissal itself does not decide whether Michel’s allegations were true or whether Hill’s response was correct. It should not be read as a finding in favor of either side.

What the case establishes—and what it does not
- The complaint establishes what Michel alleged, not that the alleged conduct occurred.
- Hill’s reported statements establish her denial and her account of the tours and disputed payments; they do not independently settle the finances.
- The reported dismissal without prejudice ended the case as reported, but the reviewed coverage contains no merits decision resolving the competing claims.
