Courtney Joelle’s dining-out TikTok drew criticism after she described letting her husband handle interactions with restaurant staff while she stayed silent. Joelle presented the routine as feeling cared for and letting him “lead and be masculine”; viewers objected to its implications for women’s autonomy and its treatment of service workers. PerthNow reported that the video was deleted and Joelle’s account deactivated on June 30, 2025, but that report does not establish the account’s status today.
What Courtney Joelle described in the video
In the TikTok, Joelle described going to dinner with her husband. He opened the car and restaurant doors, made the reservation and spoke with the hostess. Joelle said she waited without speaking or making eye contact. If a waiter addressed her, she looked to her husband to order rather than ordering for herself.
She said the behavior was not about believing she was better than the staff. As quoted by PerthNow, Joelle explained: “This is not out of a, ‘I’m better than them, I don’t need to talk to them’, you’re just letting your husband lead and be masculine.” The Daily Dot quoted her saying the arrangement made her feel “special” and “over-the-top taken care of.”
The Daily Dot also reported that Joelle said she might wait in the lobby while her husband parked. She anticipated criticism, saying: “I know this is gonna be ripped apart. People just take things seriously in such the wrong way.” The original video was later reported as deleted, so these statements are available through the publications’ accounts of it.

Why did the ‘princess treatment’ video draw backlash?
Concerns about autonomy and gender roles
Critics objected to a woman declining to speak for herself in an everyday public interaction. Some interpreted the routine as reinforcing traditional gender roles or limiting women’s autonomy. Others saw a contradiction between advocating silence and using a public video to tell viewers how to behave.
The Daily Dot reported that the clip prompted reaction videos and parodies. The phrase “princess treatment or prisoner treatment” circulated as a critical comment. It captures an audience interpretation, not an established description of Joelle’s relationship.

Criticism of how staff were treated
Some viewers focused on Joelle’s reported lack of engagement with restaurant workers. One anonymous TikTok commenter quoted by PerthNow said: “It is classist. Like, to not engage with service workers at all, even eye contact? These are other human beings.” That reaction framed the routine as disrespectful or classist; it does not establish Joelle’s intent.
Why some viewers found the scenario alarming
PerthNow quoted a commenter who said the behavior resembled signs they had been trained to recognize in healthcare when suspecting trafficking, kidnapping or domestic violence. That was a viewer’s stated reaction, not evidence that Joelle experienced abuse, coercion or any of those harms. The reports describe the video and its reception, not an independently verified account of her private relationship.

What the ‘tradwife’ accusations mean—and what they do not establish
Some of the backlash placed the video in debates about “tradwife” content: online material associated with traditional domestic and gender roles. In this case, the label appeared in audience framing and coverage of the controversy. The reporting does not establish that Joelle identified herself as a tradwife or confirm her private beliefs.
The distinction matters: Joelle’s stated explanation was that the routine made her feel cared for and let her husband lead. Viewers interpreted the same behavior through concerns about gender roles, autonomy and class. Those competing readings are part of the controversy; neither reaction proves what Joelle believes beyond what she said in the video.
