Was Brat summer really over?
The post’s “forever” was a playful way to sign off on a summer trend, not an announcement that Charli was retiring the album or ending all activity associated with it. Contemporaneous coverage noted major remixes and an expanded edition, showing that Brat-related releases continued after the message.
Why had “Brat summer” become such a phenomenon?
Brat, Charli XCX’s sixth studio album, came out on June 7, 2024. Its vivid chartreuse visual identity and songs including “Von Dutch” and “360” helped the album become a prominent part of the season. As BBC Newsbeat described, the phrase had spread beyond music culture.

That seasonal framing was not universal. Some fans in the Southern Hemisphere joked that their summer was still on the way, while others resisted the idea that the trend was finished. Marie Claire reported fans’ reluctance to let Brat summer go; BBC Newsbeat also noted the different seasonal perspective.
