Yes. Stranger Things uses the F-word. The New Zealand Classification Office’s series entry, dated 14 November 2025, describes “a couple uses.” Netflix’s US title page showed the series as TV-14 when checked for this article. Those details are not contradictory: TV-14 can include strong coarse language, and ratings differ by market and may be assigned episode by episode.
What the available evidence says
The New Zealand Classification Office’s entry says the series contains offensive language, including “a couple uses” of the F-word. It is a dated, series-level content description—not an episode transcript or a complete frequency count. The page identifies Netflix as the self-rater and is specifically a New Zealand classification entry. New Zealand Classification Office (14 November 2025).
Netflix’s US title page displayed TV-14 when retrieved. That is a market- and time-specific listing, not a promise that every country or account will show the same label. Netflix says its maturity ratings reflect factors such as the frequency and impact of mature content, including adult language, and provides rating details on title pages. Netflix: maturity ratings
Why TV-14 does not rule out the F-word
The TV Parental Guidelines define TV-14 as a category that may include intense violence, intense sexual situations, strong coarse language, or intensely suggestive dialogue. TV-MA is a separate category for adult programming that may include crude indecent language, among other content. The guidelines do not set a universal F-word quota or say that one use automatically requires a particular rating. TV Parental Guidelines: rating definitions

These systems should not be conflated: the US TV-14 label on Netflix’s title page and the New Zealand Classification Office’s description come from different jurisdictions and have different scopes. Neither establishes a single worldwide rating for the show.
Ratings and content can vary by episode or version
The TV Parental Guidelines say ratings are applied episode by episode. A series-level label therefore does not prove that every episode has identical content or its own identical rating. The Guidelines also note that edited versions can differ across distribution contexts. TV Parental Guidelines: FAQ
