Josh Dunkley and Lachie Neale arrived dressed as Barbie and Ken at the Brisbane Lions’ 2023 Mad Monday gathering, according to a report published by PerthNow on October 3, 2023. The end-of-season event followed Brisbane’s grand final loss; it was separate from the club’s 2024 premiership celebrations.
What Josh Dunkley and Lachie Neale wore
PerthNow reported that the pair arrived as Ken and Barbie. Dunkley, who had joined Brisbane from the Western Bulldogs in the preceding off-season, wore a bleached blonde wig and a one-piece bathing suit. The report also described matching hats and sweatbands, with yellow earrings, lipstick and blush completing Dunkley’s look.
The photograph accompanying the account was attributed to the Brisbane Lions. PerthNow said the club shared the image on its social media pages with the caption, “They are Kenough,” alongside a still-frame from the film. The line was the club’s caption, not a quote from either player.
Why the year matters
This was Brisbane’s 2023 end-of-season gathering after losing the grand final. It should not be confused with the separate Mad Monday held after the Lions won the premiership in 2024; a Fox Sports report covered that later event and different costumes.
