If the MLB app will not open, keeps crashing, or buffers on your Samsung TV, first restart the TV and identify whether the problem affects only MLB or other streaming apps too. Then work through the seven fixes below, saving a Smart Hub reset for last because it signs you out of apps.
Start by identifying the symptom
Check whether other apps open and stream normally. If MLB alone will not launch or crashes, focus first on the app, TV software, and device eligibility. If MLB opens but video buffers or fails to play, check the network connection as well. These symptoms point to different causes; a network change is unlikely to fix an app that crashes at launch.
1. Cold boot the TV
A normal press of the Power button can leave a Samsung TV in standby. To fully restart it, hold the remote’s Power button until the TV turns off and comes back on; Samsung says this usually takes about five seconds. Samsung describes a cold boot as shutting down and rebooting the TV, rather than putting it into standby: Samsung Support: An app will not work on my Samsung TV or projector.
If you cannot use the remote, unplug the TV for 30 seconds, reconnect it, and allow your network equipment to come back online before testing MLB again.

2. Check the network if playback is the problem
If the app opens but buffers, cannot connect, or fails during playback, test the TV’s network connection. MLB’s general network help offers troubleshooting for restarting the network, improving Wi-Fi, checking bandwidth, and connecting directly to the network: MLB.TV Help Center. It is a general network resource, not a Samsung-TV-specific procedure.
Compare MLB with another streaming app on the same TV. If several apps have connection trouble, investigate the home network; if other apps work and only MLB fails, continue with the app and TV checks below.

3. Install available Samsung TV software updates
- Open Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now.
- Let the update finish before turning off the TV, then open MLB again.
Menu names can vary by model. Samsung also notes that some settings may revert after a software update. Its app troubleshooting guidance includes updating TV software: Samsung Support: An app will not work on my Samsung TV or projector.
4. Reinstall the MLB app
- Open Apps and select the settings or gear icon.
- Select MLB, then choose Delete. If Delete is unavailable because MLB is a recommended app, choose Reinstall instead.
- Search for MLB in Apps and install it again.
Reinstalling may require you to sign in to MLB again. Samsung lists app deletion and reinstallation among its troubleshooting steps: Samsung Support: An app will not work on my Samsung TV or projector.

5. Try Ethernet for buffering or connection failures
If the TV has an Ethernet port, connect it directly to your router and test playback again. MLB includes a direct network connection among its general network troubleshooting options: MLB.TV Help Center. This is a diagnostic option for network symptoms; it will not resolve an app crash or a device-compatibility issue.

Smart Hub reset is more disruptive than restarting the TV or reinstalling MLB: it signs you out of your Samsung account and apps. Have your credentials ready. Samsung’s U.S. instructions give different menu paths by TV year:

7. Confirm the TV is supported, then contact MLB if needed
Check your exact TV model against MLB’s current Samsung requirements and supported-device information rather than relying on a blanket year cutoff: MLB.TV for Samsung. MLB’s page also links to setup, viewing, and troubleshooting help.
