In Rolling Stone’s April 2024 cover story, Billie Eilish said self-pleasure had helped her feel more accepting and comfortable in her body. She framed that as her own experience—not a universal promise—and connected it to her history of body issues and dysmorphia, as she described it. The wider interview also explored how she was understanding her attraction to women and why people should not be pressured to label themselves before they are ready.

Why Eilish said self-pleasure mattered to her

Speaking with Angie Martoccio for Rolling Stone’s 2024 cover story, Eilish described self-pleasure as a significant part of her life. “TMI, but self-pleasure is an enormous, enormous part of my life, and a huge, huge help for me,” she said.

She explained that paying attention to her own experience of pleasure had changed how she felt about her body: “I have learned that looking at myself and watching myself feel pleasure has been an extreme help in loving myself and accepting myself, and feeling empowered and comfortable.”

Eilish linked those feelings to body issues and dysmorphia she had experienced. Her account is personal: the interview does not establish that self-pleasure has the same effect for other people, or present it as medical or psychological treatment.

Her criticism of stigma around women and sex

Eilish said women can encounter discomfort and stigma when they speak openly and confidently about sex. That was her assessment of the social climate in the interview, not a statistical finding presented there. Her comments emphasized the contrast between private self-acceptance and the judgment people may face when discussing sexuality publicly.

How “Lunch” connected to her understanding of attraction

The interview also discussed “Lunch,” a song on Hit Me Hard and Soft. Eilish said part of it was written before and part after she had experiences with a woman. She described the song in the context of figuring out her attraction, rather than using that passage to announce a fixed identity label.

As she spoke about public attention to sexuality, Eilish cautioned against pressuring people to define themselves before they are ready: “Nobody should be pressured into being one thing or the other.” Her point was about allowing people room to understand themselves in their own time.

The interview’s context

Martoccio’s April 2024 story was a broad profile of Eilish’s life, music, privacy, mental health and changing relationship with publicity—not a standalone health feature. At the time of the interview, Hit Me Hard and Soft was upcoming, with May 17 given as its planned release date. That date belongs to the interview’s 2024 context.

Rolling Stone Canada’s companion coverage, published April 24, 2024, highlighted Eilish’s remarks about self-pleasure and body acceptance. Neither article presents a relevant statistic or clinical evidence for a general claim about health outcomes. Read her comments as an account of what she says helped her, not as advice or a result guaranteed for others.
