For free, on-demand movies and TV, start with Tubi; for a mix of free movies, shows and live news, try The Roku Channel. Both are ad-supported, and neither guarantees that a particular title is available in your country. Check the official service for the title you want before settling in.

What to expect from Tubi
Tubi presents its service as “Always Free. 100% Legal.” That describes Tubi’s own offering, not every site using the CouchTuner name. Its help-center listing says Tubi uses short ad breaks, so free viewing is not ad-free. Tubi Help Center.
Tubi lists web, Android and iOS access, as well as devices including Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Xfinity X1, Xbox, Samsung and Sony smart TVs, and PlayStation. You may already have a compatible way to watch; a new streaming device is not necessarily required. Check Tubi’s official site for current access in your country and on your device.
How The Roku Channel differs
Roku says viewers can “Enjoy an always-changing selection of free movies, shows, live news, kids’ TV, and more.” It also offers Premium Subscriptions, which are paid add-ons; distinguish those from the free selection when browsing. Roku cautions that “TV show and movie content availability may vary.”

- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
A Roku player is not required to access the channel. Roku lists access through Roku TVs and players, Amazon Fire TV devices and TVs, Google TV devices and TVs, Samsung TVs, Android and iOS mobile apps, and the web. Device support can change, so consult Roku’s current page before installing.
How to choose a free streaming service
- Check the exact title first. A service’s overall catalog size does not establish that the movie or episode you want is available. Search the official service in your region.
- Decide whether you want on-demand or live viewing. Tubi is a straightforward place to look for on-demand movies and shows; The Roku Channel also lists live news and kids’ TV.
- Know what “free” means. Tubi uses ads, and The Roku Channel’s free selection is distinct from its optional paid Premium Subscriptions.
- Confirm local availability. Catalogs and service access vary. Tubi’s help result says it is unavailable in Europe due to EU-law changes; do not assume the same catalog or access worldwide.
- Use official apps and sites. The research here does not establish the legal status of every CouchTuner-branded site, mirror or clone. A service’s claim about its own offering should not be generalized to unrelated sites.
Are CouchTuner alternatives legal?
Tubi calls its own service legal, and Roku describes its own free channel offering. Those statements support describing these specific services as their providers do; they do not settle the status of every site using the CouchTuner name or provide legal advice for every country. For a safer, clearer choice, use an official service and check its availability where you live.
