“Stone Cold” Steve Austin: retired, but still part of WWE’s legacy
Austin’s rise accelerated after winning the 1996 King of the Ring tournament and delivering the “Austin 3:16” promo. WWE’s profile recounts his rivalries with Bret Hart, The Rock, and Vince McMahon, and credits him with six WWE Championships. It says he retired from in-ring competition at the end of WrestleMania XIX, while continuing to make WWE appearances.
His connection to WWE history remained visible in 2025: on March 31, WWE announced Austin and Bret Hart as recipients of the first WWE Immortal Moment award for their WrestleMania 13 match. That recognition celebrates a defining moment; it is not evidence that Austin is a regular active wrestler. WWE’s Austin profile also records his 2009 Hall of Fame induction and career milestones. The award announcement is at WWE’s Immortal Moment announcement.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson: Hollywood career, high-profile WWE returns
Johnson’s wrestling breakthrough made The Rock one of WWE’s defining stars, but his post-Attitude Era career became centered on film. WWE records notable returns to wrestling, including his early-2024 return and alliance with Roman Reigns. The available profile does not establish a regular in-ring schedule, so those returns are best understood as high-profile appearances rather than a full-time return to wrestling. See WWE’s Rock profile for its account of his wrestling career and returns.
Mick Foley: author and enduring wrestling personality
Foley is remembered as Mankind, for his Hell in a Cell match, and for winning the WWE Championship in 1999. His WWE career also included work as a commissioner, commentator, and competitor. WWE calls his autobiography, Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks, a New York Times bestseller; the profile does not specify when it received that designation. His record is broader than one infamous match: it includes a championship run, changing roles in WWE, and a substantial writing career. See WWE’s Foley profile and its book overview.
How Foley views the Hell in a Cell fall
Foley’s fall from the top of the cell took place on June 28, 1998. In a WWE oral-history interview, he reflected: “I think that I created a moment that was impossible to top and I think I created a moment that shouldn’t be topped.” His comment captures both the match’s place in wrestling memory and his view that its danger should not be treated as a stunt to repeat. The interview is available in WWE’s Hell in a Cell oral history.
Foley remains a public wrestling personality and author, rather than a full-time in-ring wrestler. His official site lists the Mick and Kenny Show podcast in August 2026 and a Germany appearance in October 2026; event listings can change, so check Foley’s official website for current details.

The Undertaker: retired after three decades with WWE
WWE says The Undertaker retired at Survivor Series on November 22, 2020—the 30th anniversary of his WWE debut. He entered the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022. His legacy is clear, but the reviewed WWE profile does not identify a current full-time job, so it is more accurate to describe him as retired and a WWE legend than to assign him another occupation. See WWE’s Undertaker profile.
Triple H: from in-ring star to WWE creative leadership
Triple H, also known as Paul Levesque, officially retired from in-ring competition at WrestleMania 38. WWE’s current profile identifies him as Chief Content Officer, leading the company’s creative operations. His work behind the scenes builds on a long career as a performer: WWE credits him as a 14-time World Champion, a co-founder of D-Generation X, and the creator of the NXT developmental brand. His current role is executive and creative, not a return to regular competition. Details are on WWE’s Triple H profile.

D-Generation X brought together several of the era’s most recognizable personalities. WWE’s faction history names Shawn Michaels and Triple H as central members, and includes Chyna, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, and X-Pac among its members. The group reunited in later years and entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2019. That history does not mean the members remain an active unit or share one present-day status; their paths are individual.
