Bad Newz is a 2024 Hindi comedy-romance built around an unusual discovery: a woman is carrying twins fathered by two different men. Its high-concept setup gives the film an immediate comic engine, but the premise alone does not settle whether the story earns its shift into romance and drama—or how much room it gives the pregnant woman at its center.
What is Bad Newz about?
Saloni, played by Triptii Dimri, learns that her twins have different fathers. Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk play the two men caught up in the resulting romantic and comic triangle. The story turns an unusual paternity situation into a test of competing expectations, relationships and responsibility.
The official trailer describes the film as “a rare comedy film inspired by true events.” That is the film’s promotional wording; the available sources do not identify or independently verify a specific event behind the story.
Does the premise work as a comedy?
The central idea is memorable, but a premise is not the same thing as comic execution. The key question is whether the film turns the twins’ different paternity into sustained, character-based comedy, rather than relying on the surprise itself. Its success also depends on whether the farcical complications feel compatible with the more earnest romantic and dramatic material.

Published critical reactions show a clear difference in emphasis rather than a settled consensus. Sarah Manvel’s review excerpt, published by Movies We Texted About on 8 August 2024 and surfaced on Rotten Tomatoes, criticizes the film as tedious and argues that the pregnant woman is marginalized. Carla Hay’s Culture Mix excerpt, published 30 July 2024, instead describes Saloni’s desires as central and characterizes the movie as happy and hopeful. Those are distinct critics’ readings, not evidence of a general audience verdict.
How does the film handle Saloni and its romantic triangle?
Saloni’s agency is crucial to whether the story’s unusual setup has emotional weight. A review should consider whether her wants and choices drive the conflict, or whether the two men’s rivalry becomes the main event while her pregnancy functions chiefly as a plot device. The contrasting critical responses point to this as one of the film’s most consequential questions: the same romantic-comedy framework can feel hopeful when Saloni remains central, or frustrating when she is pushed aside.

Who made Bad Newz?
Anand Tiwari directed the film, with Ishita Moitra and Tarun Dudeja credited as writers. Its principal cast is Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk. The official trailer was published by Dharma Productions on 28 June 2024 and also names Leo Media Collective.
When was it released, and how long is it?
The official trailer announced a theatrical release on 19 July 2024. That date is not universal: the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) records a UK release on 12 July 2024. Catalog runtimes also differ: the BBFC lists 139 minutes 44 seconds, Apple TV’s US listing gives 2 hours 22 minutes, and a surfaced regional Prime Video listing gives 2 hours 19 minutes. Check the specific territory and edition rather than treating any one figure as a universal runtime.

It is most likely to appeal to viewers drawn to an offbeat romantic-comedy premise and the pairing of Kaushal, Dimri and Virk. Whether it satisfies depends on what you want from that hook: a lively comedy of complications, or a romance that gives Saloni substantial interiority and control over her story. The divided critical readings make that distinction more useful than a claim of unanimous praise or dismissal.
Prime Video and Apple TV have listings for the film, but a listing does not guarantee current access everywhere. Availability, subscription inclusion, rental or purchase options, and catalog details can vary by country; confirm the terms shown in your region before choosing a service.
