The snack behind the viral confusion is Harvest Snaps Baked Pea Crisps. A TikTok creator thought the pod-shaped pieces were dehydrated peas; the product was described instead as green peas milled and formed into pod shapes, then baked. That is a difference in how the snack is made—not evidence that the product contains no peas.
What did the TikTok creator discover?
PerthNow reported on 27 May 2025 that a creator named Nia, who posts as zen.n.en, had assumed Harvest Snaps were whole dehydrated peas. She shared her surprise at learning that the familiar pod shape is formed from milled peas. Her reported question—“Does this not look like a dried pea?”—summed up the visual misunderstanding.
PerthNow said the video had just under 400,000 views when its story was published. That is a view count reported in May 2025, not a current total. The story quoted a range of reactions, including viewers who said they had made the same assumption and others who said the pod shape had not fooled them; those comments are anecdotes, not a survey of Australians.
What are Harvest Snaps made from?
For the product discussed in the report, PerthNow described the ingredients as 68 per cent green pea, followed by vegetable oil and rice. The 68 per cent figure should not be assumed to apply to every flavour, market or current package. The report is not a direct examination of current packaging, so the ingredient label on the specific product is the best source for its formulation.

PerthNow also reported that the product had a five-star health rating, but did not establish the rating scheme or the product version it referred to. A star rating alone therefore cannot support a general conclusion about the snack’s healthfulness.
How did the company explain the pod shape?
Harvest Snaps’ account, as quoted by PerthNow, said: “We start with whole green peas (we mill it in house), then we form them into fun pod shapes and bake it for the perfect crunch! You’ll find that veggies are listed as our very 1st ingredient.”

Calbee, identified in the report as Harvest Snaps’ parent company, said the peas are milled in-house, shaped into pods and baked rather than fried. It added that the company had never claimed the crisps were dehydrated peas, and encouraged consumers to read the ingredients and nutritional information. PerthNow did not name an individual Calbee spokesperson.

The reveal is about the snack’s form and processing: these are formed crisps made with milled peas, not whole peas simply dried in their pods. The ingredient description reported by PerthNow still lists green pea as the first ingredient and gives it as 68 per cent for the product covered in that story.

The report does not establish current availability, independently analyze the snack’s nutrition, or verify the details on today’s packages. For a current product, check its own ingredient list and nutrition panel rather than relying on a viral reaction or an older description.
