Perth resident Terence Belletty says he became a Kylie Minogue fan in 1986, when he was 12 and saw her on Neighbours. Nearly four decades later, his collection and the comfort he finds in her music were featured in SBS Insight’s 2024 episode about super fans.
How Terence Belletty became a Kylie Minogue fan
Belletty recalls buying Minogue’s 1987 single “The Locomotion” and starting a collection of vinyl and magazines. Over time, he says, it grew to include music, perfumes, dolls, posters, clothing and wine.

For Belletty, the collection is more than a display of memorabilia. In his first-person account published by SBS on 24 April 2024, he wrote: “I get to celebrate, be inspired and find strength in Kylie’s music. She’s my passion.” He also told PerthNow that he could “just close the doors, turn off the lights, and put Kylie on” to find comfort.
What he says the collection and fandom have cost
The spending figures reported in 2024 are Belletty’s estimates, not independently audited totals, and the reports describe different categories. SBS said he estimated spending around A$250,000 on Kylie memorabilia, travel and shows. PerthNow described him as having spent more than $250,000 on concert tickets and official merchandise. Neither figure should be treated as a verified accounting of his expenses.
#1 Best Overall
PerthNow’s headline characterized Belletty as Australia’s biggest Kylie Minogue fan, but the report did not establish a measured national ranking. The description is best understood as a headline characterization of his devotion and collection.
The backstage meeting he remembers
Belletty says he met Minogue backstage on 9 March 2019, after a television interview about his collection. He recalls spending about 15 minutes with her, having her sign his arm and tattooing that signature the next morning.

“I always imagined the moment I met her I would faint or cry, I did have the giggles but she reassured me and hugged me,” he told PerthNow.

PerthNow reported on 22 April 2024 that Belletty would appear in Insight’s Super Fans episode, scheduled for that Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. and streaming on SBS On Demand. That schedule is historical; current availability of the episode has not been verified.
In the same report, Belletty reflected on accepting his fandom: “I have got to the age now where I don’t care anymore, I’m not hurting anybody and this world we’re living in, if you can find joy in whatever you do, just get on with it and enjoy yourself.”
