Amazon India deleted its own campaign post featuring actor Swara Bhasker after online backlash and boycott calls were reported in April 2018. But contemporaneous reporting said the company’s official reason was unknown, so the sequence does not establish that the backlash caused the deletion.
What happened
On April 19, 2018, Bhasker posted a promotional tweet as part of an Amazon campaign. It described moving to a new city and wanting a music system, and included the hashtags #AjnabiShaharKiGoogly and #ChonkpurCheetahs. The Indian Express reproduced the tweet in its April 22 report.
“When I made the big move to a new city, all I wanted was a swanky music system, music being my passion! No matter how much I hunted for it, couldn’t find anything of my choice. In fact, I only got confused! #AjnabiShaharKiGoogly #ChonkpurCheetahs”
The Indian Express reported that Amazon India had retweeted or responded to the campaign tweet, then deleted its own post. Scroll’s April 23 follow-up also reported the deletion, attributing its account to The Indian Express. The Indian Express report and Scroll’s follow-up are contemporaneous coverage, not an explanation from Amazon.

Why the post drew backlash
The Indian Express connected the objections to Bhasker’s earlier support for the #JusticeForOurChild campaign, in the context of the Kathua and Unnao cases. The report described calls to boycott Amazon, including the hashtags #BoycottAmazon and #UninstallAmazon.
The same account also recorded people defending Bhasker’s advocacy against rape and criticizing the objections. These were positions expressed by participants in the online debate; the reports do not establish how representative either side was of the broader public.

What is known about the deletion—and what is not
The reported sequence is clear: Bhasker’s campaign tweet appeared on April 19; backlash and boycott calls were reported; Amazon India later deleted its own campaign post. On April 20, a social-media post claimed Amazon had removed Bhasker from the campaign, but that claim is not confirmation of a company decision or its reasoning.
The Indian Express said Amazon’s official reason for deleting the post was unknown and that it had sought comment from the company. The reports therefore support describing the backlash as the context around the deletion, not as a confirmed cause. They also provide no measured total for boycott participation, the scale of the reaction, or any commercial impact.
What the endorsement does—and does not—say about a product
Bhasker’s tweet mentions wanting a “music system,” but it does not name a brand or model, describe a purchase, or review a product. It is a campaign statement reproduced by The Indian Express, not evidence that she tested or recommended a particular stereo. The hashtags belong to that 2018 campaign discussion and should not be read as current product or campaign information.
