Yes. Sophie Turner, best known for playing Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, is officially set to play Lara Croft in Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider series for Prime Video. Crystal Dynamics confirmed the casting on September 3, 2025.
What is Amazon’s Tomb Raider series?
It is a live-action series based on the Tomb Raider video game franchise, following archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. Amazon announced the show as a Prime Video exclusive in May 2024, with a planned premiere across more than 240 countries and territories. That figure describes Amazon’s announced distribution footprint, not audience size or guaranteed availability in every territory today. Amazon Games’ announcement also described the series and the games as separate stories about Lara’s adventures.
Who is making the series?
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the series creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. Jonathan Van Tulleken is director and executive producer, and Chad Hodge is co-showrunner, according to Crystal Dynamics’ casting announcement.
Turner said she was “thrilled beyond measure” to play Lara and described the character as iconic. Waller-Bridge said she was excited to make a show of this scale around a character she had grown up loving. Those statements accompanied the September 2025 casting announcement.

Who else is in the cast?
The announced cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein. Amazon’s January 7, 2026 cast announcement identifies Weaver as Evelyn Wallis, Isaacs as Atlas DeMornay, and Bobb-Semple as Zip. Amazon’s cast announcement provides further character details.
When will the series come out?
Crystal Dynamics announced a production start date of January 19, 2026. TVLine reported on January 15, 2026 that production was underway and that no release date had been announced at that time. Those are dated updates, not confirmation of the show’s status or release-date position today; the cited announcements do not establish whether a newer date has since been set. TVLine’s January 2026 cast report records the information available then.

Is this connected to a new Tomb Raider game?
The series is a separate screen story about Lara Croft, not the same project as a game release. Amazon Games’ 2024 announcement discussed the television series alongside the PC release of Tomb Raider: Game of the Year Edition through GOG during that month; that reference does not establish current game availability.
