At first, they described their connection as a close friendship; Siwa confirmed in June that it had become romantic. Later appearances and comments offer glimpses of their relationship, but do not establish a finalized future plan or private status beyond what they have said publicly.
How JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes met
Siwa and Hughes met while appearing on Celebrity Big Brother UK in April 2025. Their closeness on the show drew attention, but Hughes initially characterized their connection as friendship. In an April interview on ITV’s This Morning, as quoted by Us Weekly, he called it “a really strong bond between two people” and said he believed in a “soulmate friendship.”

When did their friendship become romantic?
In May 2025, Siwa told Us Weekly that they stayed in regular contact and described their bond as a special friendship. Public posts and reports of a kiss prompted speculation, but neither detail alone amounted to a clear public confirmation.
That came on June 2, 2025. In an interview with The Guardian, Siwa said: “It’s not platonic anymore, and it’s been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I’m absolutely head over heels for him.” The Guardian published her remarks; ABC News and Capital also reported her confirmation.

How Hughes recalled the start of the romance
In July 2025, Hughes described the relationship as developing after the show. As recounted in Elle’s timeline, he told Fabulous that they remained in touch and recalled flying to Mexico City to surprise Siwa. He described their first kiss this way: “Our first kiss was genuinely special—it felt like I was in a movie.” These are Hughes’s recollections as reported by Elle, rather than independently established details of their private chronology.
Public milestones after Siwa’s confirmation
- October 2025: Elle reports that the pair posed together at Dancers Against Cancer’s 2025 Gala of the Stars.
- January 2026: Siwa spoke on E!’s The Rundown about wanting a child with Hughes. That is an expression of her hopes, not evidence that they had finalized a plan.
- March 2026: Siwa described her forthcoming song “Serendipity” as inspired by their meeting and relationship, according to Elle.
- July 2026: Hughes attended Siwa’s Universal CityWalk performance, where they kissed, Elle reports. This is the latest relationship milestone in the coverage cited here.
What is—and is not—publicly established
The clearest public account is Siwa’s June 2025 statement that the relationship was no longer platonic. The pair’s later public appearances and attributed comments add context, while Hughes’s account of their first kiss remains his recollection. Siwa’s remarks about having a child convey a hope, not a confirmed decision. Public reporting through July 2026 does not establish a finalized future plan or justify assumptions about details they have not disclosed.
