Its May 27 Season 3 finale is now the series finale. Nikki Batista’s death came earlier in the season, but neither Fox nor the available reporting established it as a cause of the cancellation.
Was Alert: Missing Persons Unit renewed for Season 4?
No. Fox canceled the police procedural on June 6, 2025. The third-season finale, which aired May 27, therefore became the series finale. Fox’s reported statement thanked Sony, the creators, showrunner Carla Kettner and the cast, but offered no specific reason for ending the show. TV Insider reported the cancellation and reproduced Fox’s statement.

Did Nikki Batista’s death lead to the cancellation?
There is no established connection. Nikki, played by Dania Ramirez, was killed in the second episode of Season 3. Kettner described the decision as a creative move to unsettle the unit and refresh a procedural whose Jason–Nikki–Mike love-triangle storyline had run its course. That explanation concerns the story, not Fox’s later decision to cancel the series. TVLine reported Kettner’s explanation; TV Insider also covered the character’s death.
Kettner’s broader point was that procedural dramas can benefit from bold changes to their regular characters. But the available coverage does not show that the death was a network-driven cancellation trigger, or that Fox cited it as one.

What did the finale leave unresolved?
The finale ended on a cliffhanger involving Wayne. She received a text asking, “Report?” and replied, “I’m in @ MPU,” without clarifying her intentions. TV Insider reported that a prospective Season 4 would have explained the message and settled who would permanently lead the unit. Those plans never became on-screen events; the series ended without that resolution. TV Insider’s cancellation report describes the cliffhanger and the unrealized Season 4 possibilities.
What audience figures were reported?
TVLine reported that Season 3 averaged 2.16 million total viewers when delayed playback was included, a 12% decline from Season 2. The outlet ranked the show sixth among the seven Fox dramas it tracked that season. These are TVLine’s audience figures and ranking—not a cancellation explanation attributed to Fox. The network did not state its rationale in the reported announcement. TVLine’s report provides the figures.
