Netflix currently labels the four-episode 2025 program a limited series, and its creators have described Jamie’s story as complete. Still, later comments leave open the possibility of another iteration. The Rotten Tomatoes figures checked on October 7, 2026, were 97% from critics and 74% from audiences—not the 98% sometimes cited.
Has Netflix confirmed Adolescence season 2?
No. Netflix’s title page presents Adolescence as a 2025 limited series and lists four episodes. That is the program’s current classification, not an announcement that a second season has been ordered—or proof that no future continuation could ever be made.
It helps to distinguish four different things: Netflix’s current label, reported creative conversations, the creators’ comments about Jamie’s story, and an official renewal. The first three exist; the reviewed sources do not establish the fourth.

Why the limited-series label does not settle the question
“Limited series” describes how Netflix currently catalogs the show. It is a strong signal that the four-episode story was presented as a complete, bounded series, but the label alone cannot prove that Netflix or the creators will never revisit the subject in another form.

The April 9, 2025, Guardian report said Plan B’s co-presidents were in conversation with Barantini about a possible next iteration, while also making clear that nothing had been confirmed. Thorne’s view in that report was direct: “Jamie’s story is finished.” A discussion about a possible next iteration is not the same as a season-two order.
Is Jamie’s story over?
The first series reaches a clear ending for Jamie’s central story. In the finale, he tells his father that he plans to plead guilty. Netflix Tudum’s finale explainer says the creators intended to bring the story to its ending and focus on the Miller family.

That conclusion can coexist with the possibility of a later project. On January 11, 2026, TV Insider reported Graham’s Golden Globes comment that the idea was “somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind and Jack’s mind,” and that they might “pull it out in three or four years.” It is a suggestion of future consideration, not confirmation that season two is in development.
What is Adolescence’s Rotten Tomatoes score?
Rotten Tomatoes displayed a 97% Tomatometer from 112 reviews and a 74% Popcornmeter from more than 2,500 ratings when checked on October 7, 2026. The Rotten Tomatoes listing can change as reviews and audience ratings are added, so these are dated figures rather than permanent scores.

The Tomatometer and Popcornmeter are separate measures: the first reflects critics’ reviews, while the second reflects audience ratings. Neither score indicates whether Netflix has renewed a series.

Netflix describes Adolescence as the story of a 13-year-old accused of murdering a classmate, and the family, therapist, and detective trying to understand what happened. Its four episodes follow Jamie’s arrest, the school investigation, a meeting with a psychologist, and his family’s attempt to celebrate his father Eddie’s birthday.

The fictional Jamie is not based on one specific real person or event. According to Netflix Tudum’s production feature, the series idea drew on news reports Stephen Graham had heard about boys involved in knife crimes. Tudum also reports that Jack Thorne was inspired during development by Gitta Sereny’s book Cries Unheard: Why Children Kill; that connection is background to the creators’ work, not evidence that the show directly dramatizes a real case.
Tudum describes the series as filmed in one continuous shot per episode, with a DJI Ronin 4D camera and crew members handing the camera to one another without stopping. The description refers to the show’s continuous-shot approach; it should not be taken to mean the production involved no filmmaking techniques or post-production.

What is confirmed, and what remains open?
- Confirmed: Netflix currently lists a four-episode limited series.
- Confirmed: Jamie’s first-series story ends with his stated plan to plead guilty, and Thorne said that story was finished.
- Reported, but not confirmed as a project: Plan B discussed a possible next iteration, and Graham later said he and Thorne might revisit an idea in several years.
- Not established: A Netflix season-two order, production schedule, release date, or guarantee that another iteration will never happen.
