O que Tarantino quis dizer com “Marvelização de Hollywood”

A transcrição consultada do episódio registra a formulação central: “Part of the marvelization of Hollywood is, yeah, no, it’s the, you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters, but they’re not movie stars. Captain America is the star. Thor is the star.” (transcrição da entrevista).
Por “Marvelização”, ele descrevia uma mudança de foco: o público pode acompanhar uma franquia ou um personagem, em vez de reconhecer e seguir um ator por diferentes papéis. Na leitura de Tarantino, Capitão América ou Thor pode funcionar como a atração principal, enquanto o ator que dá vida ao personagem fica em segundo plano na percepção popular.
Ele não disse que odeia os filmes da Marvel
Tarantino fez uma ressalva explícita: “I don’t hate them, all right, but I don’t love them.” Sua objeção principal, segundo a mesma transcrição, era a predominância que percebia na produção e na atenção da indústria: “My only ax to grind against them is they’re the only things that seem to be made. Samuel L. Jackson: o ator também é parte do personagem
Em resposta no programa The View, Samuel L. Jackson contestou a ideia de que os intérpretes desses papéis não sejam estrelas. “It takes an actor to be those particular [Marvel] characters”, disse. Em seguida, perguntou qual seria o critério: “And the sign of a movie star has always been what? A in seats? What are we talking about?” A reportagem do Los Angeles Times também registra que Jackson citou Chadwick Boseman como Black Panther e como estrela de cinema (Los Angeles Times).

Simu Liu: quem pode definir uma estrela?
Simu Liu respondeu publicamente a Tarantino e Martin Scorsese, que também haviam criticado aspectos do cinema de franquia. Segundo a ABC News, Liu disse que, se os dois fossem os únicos “gatekeepers” do estrelato, ele não teria tido a oportunidade de protagonizar um filme de grande orçamento.
