A$AP Rocky’s Los Angeles gun-assault trial is over: on February 18, 2025, a jury found the rapper, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, not guilty of both felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The verdict followed about three hours of deliberation. The case arose from a 2021 Hollywood confrontation with former friend and collaborator Terell Ephron, known as A$AP Relli.
What the jury decided
The jury acquitted Mayers of both charges on February 18, 2025. The verdict resolved the criminal counts described in the case; it does not, by itself, establish every detail of the disputed encounter. The Los Angeles County district attorney said after the verdict, as quoted by CBS, “While today’s verdict is not the outcome we sought, we respect the jury’s decision and the integrity of our justice system.”
What the charges concerned
The charges stemmed from an alleged confrontation in Hollywood on November 6, 2021. Prosecutors said Mayers fired two shots toward Ephron with a real semiautomatic firearm. That was the prosecution’s account, not a finding established by the acquittal.
The defense disputed that account. It argued that the object was a prop gun that fired blanks and also raised self-defense. Defense lawyers challenged Ephron’s credibility and the evidence. These were arguments presented at trial, rather than facts the verdict confirmed.

Why the evidence was contested
Neither side produced a gun as evidence, according to the Associated Press. Trial coverage described disputes about alleged graze wounds and shell casings, as well as competing interpretations of testimony and video. The prosecution relied on testimony and its reading of video and other evidence; the defense disputed the weapon and the shooting account. The jury’s not-guilty verdict means Mayers was acquitted of both counts, not that every factual disagreement was separately resolved.
How the case reached a verdict
- November 6, 2021: The alleged Hollywood confrontation took place.
- January 2025: Jury selection began.
- February 14, 2025: After closing arguments, the jury received the case. The Associated Press reported that deliberations would begin the following Tuesday.
- February 18, 2025: The jury returned not-guilty verdicts on both counts after about three hours of deliberation.
How to look up the court record
The Los Angeles County Superior Court says criminal case information can be searched online by a person’s name or case number, and at public terminals in a courthouse. Some indexing requests may incur fees. This is a way to seek the primary record; the court’s general search guidance is not itself a case-specific docket or verdict document.
