Spoilers for Squid Game Season 2, Episode 4, “Six Legs.” Gi-hun’s team enters a six-legged pentathlon in which five players are tied together and each must complete a mini-game. The challenge turns the episode’s simmering arguments about blame and trust into a shared risk: one person’s failure can put the whole team in danger.
What happens in “Six Legs”?
Episode 4 shifts between the players’ strained relationships, the first team game, and storylines outside the arena. Netflix’s official episode companion identifies the game as a six-legged pentathlon and highlights Gi-hun’s reluctant move into leadership, the unexpected strength of his team, and Pink Guard 011’s moral conflict.
The episode begins with the previous vote still weighing on Gi-hun. Some players chose to continue the games, and conversations in the dormitory keep responsibility and blame unsettled rather than letting the vote fade into the background. Jung-bae tries to steady his friend and urges the group to stick together.
How do the players form a team?
As players bargain over team membership, alliances are shaped by need as much as affection. Dae-ho introduces himself to Jung-bae, and the two bond over their shared Marine background. Gi-hun, meanwhile, is increasingly treated as someone who should lead, even though he is uncomfortable with the role and the group remains divided.

In-ho, still presenting himself as another player, draws closer to Gi-hun’s circle. He describes himself as a desperate husband and father, but the episode leaves open how much of that account is sincere and how much is calculated. The tension lies in the gap between the trust he is building and what the audience does not know about his motives.
That influence becomes visible when Thanos and Nam-gyu antagonize Myung-gi. In-ho steps in physically as the confrontation escalates, strengthening his position within the group without resolving the question of why he is helping.

What is the six-legged pentathlon?
Teams of five are tied together and take turns attempting mini-games. The format demands more than individual skill: each player has to complete their part while the others remain dependent on the team’s overall progress. Netflix describes Gonggi as a classic Korean schoolyard game and connects it to the episode; the A.V. Club’s recap also identifies Flying Stone as a mini-game.
The A.V. Club describes one team failing to finish its leg of the challenge after a player repeatedly misses at Flying Stone. That failure shows how the rules change the stakes: a teammate’s mistake is not merely a personal setback when the group’s survival is tied together. The available episode companion and recap do not establish a complete station-by-station list or detailed rules for every mini-game, so the episode’s broader team dynamic is clearer than a full breakdown of the pentathlon.

How does the game change Gi-hun’s role?
Gi-hun’s leadership is tested by the contrast between his wish to protect people and the reality that he cannot control every teammate’s performance. The pentathlon makes cooperation necessary, but it does not erase resentment or guarantee that everyone will act in the group’s interest. His team’s unexpected strength offers a counterpoint to the dormitory’s mistrust, not proof that the divisions have disappeared.
What happens in the parallel storylines?
“Six Legs” also keeps attention on Pink Guard 011’s struggle with her own morality and Jun-ho’s rescue mission. These threads broaden the episode beyond the arena: while Gi-hun’s group faces a collective test inside the game, the story continues to follow characters caught in different forms of danger and obligation. Netflix’s official episode companion flags both arcs alongside the pentathlon.

Why the episode matters
“Six Legs” uses a team game to make the season’s questions about responsibility tangible. Players who have been arguing over whether to continue now have to rely on one another to survive the next challenge. Gi-hun’s reluctant leadership, In-ho’s carefully built closeness, and the team’s shared exposure to failure all sharpen the same uncertainty: in a group where trust is fragile, who will accept responsibility when someone else’s choice puts everyone at risk?
