The One Piece chapter 1140 preview showed Luffy and his group confronting Scopper Gaban as they tried to obtain a key. The contemporary preview report did not say Luffy used Gear 5; that detail comes from the later anime adaptation. Chapter 1140 is a completed release, not an upcoming chapter.
What did the One Piece chapter 1140 preview show?
On February 21, 2025, MANGA Watch reported that the official One Piece website had published a one-page “Choi-mise” preview for chapter 1140. The page showed Luffy and his group facing Scopper Gaban in connection with their attempt to obtain a key. The report described Gaban as the Pirate King’s left arm. MANGA Watch’s February 21 report covered the preview ahead of Weekly Shonen Jump issue 13, which was scheduled for February 25, 2025.

Did Luffy use Gear 5 against Gaban in the preview?
The report on the one-page manga preview does not mention Gear 5. The Gear 5 detail belongs to the later anime adaptation: the official synopsis for episode 1170, titled “Take the Key! Luffy vs. Scopper Gaban,” says Luffy recognizes Gaban as an opponent to take seriously and activates Gear 5. That is anime-specific evidence, not a description of what the preview page showed.
