David Cemlyn-Jones
Brian Mooney, a former Reuters bureau chief, recalled Cemlyn-Jones’s drinking in Madrid and wrote, “David Cemlyn-Jones was the second hardest drinking journalist I ever knew.” This is a firsthand comparison based on Mooney’s own experience. Why these examples do not make a fair ranking
The accounts differ in both evidence and scope: the Mankiewicz and Parker description is a retrospective characterization of people in a particular social circle, while Mooney’s statement is a personal recollection about a colleague. Neither supplies a shared measuring method or a complete comparison group. Mankiewicz and Parker are also discussed in a broader literary and social context, so the category “journalist” cannot simply be assumed from these references.
