What is Descanso Farm?
Descanso Farm is the California breeding and training operation Selleck founded in 2010 to develop sport horses. The interview describes a small-scale program in which young horses received specialist care and training before Selleck took over riding them as they progressed toward jumping and competition. By 2014, six young horses were in the program, according to that 2019 account. Equestrian Living reports that the farm bred six foals from 2011 through 2014 and says its name comes from the family’s Rancho de Descanso. These are historical details; they do not establish how the farm operates today.
In the interview, Selleck emphasized the work behind producing horses well: “You need exceptional people and a good program if it’s all going to work out and you’re really going to produce the horses properly.” World of Showjumping, September 17, 2019.
