Kennedy’s grandson Jack Schlossberg is descended from him through his daughter Caroline Kennedy: Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy → John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy → Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg → Jack Schlossberg. That is the direct line; the wider Kennedy family includes JFK’s eight siblings and their branches.
The direct line from JFK to Jack Schlossberg
- Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy had nine children. John F. Kennedy was their second child.
- John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy had three children born alive: Caroline, John F. Kennedy Jr., and Patrick Bouvier Kennedy.
- Caroline Kennedy married Edwin Schlossberg. Their children are Rose, Tatiana, and Jack Schlossberg.
- Jack Schlossberg is JFK’s grandson through Caroline.
JFK’s children and how they are counted
The JFK Library’s biography of Jacqueline Kennedy records that the couple had an earlier pregnancy loss, in addition to their three children born alive. So a family tree that counts children born alive should show Caroline, John Jr., and Patrick; a graphic that includes pregnancies should identify that broader counting convention rather than treating the pregnancy loss as a child born alive. Patrick was born on August 7, 1963, and died two days later.
The Library’s account also quotes Jacqueline Kennedy describing the importance she placed on motherhood: “if you bungle raising your children, I don’t think whatever else you do well matters very much.” Read the JFK Library biography of Jacqueline B. Kennedy.
Where JFK fits in the wider Kennedy family
JFK was one of nine children of Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. That makes his siblings and their descendants part of the extended Kennedy clan, but they are collateral branches—not part of the direct line from JFK to Jack. The National Archives confirms that JFK was the second of nine children; its short biography does not enumerate the siblings. This guide therefore focuses on the documented trunk and the descent to Jack rather than presenting an unsupported roster of every branch.

Caroline Kennedy’s children
Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg had three children: Rose, Tatiana, and Jack. The Associated Press reported Tatiana Schlossberg’s death on December 30, 2025, at age 35. She should not be described as living in a current account. Read the Associated Press report on Tatiana Schlossberg.
The 1961 Kennedy genealogical chart—and what it does not show
The JFK Presidential Library and Museum holds a calligraphed and illuminated Kennedy genealogical chart presented to President Kennedy by Irish Ambassador Thomas J. Kiernan on March 17, 1961. The chart begins with Patrick Kennedy of Wexford and runs through John Jr. and Caroline. The Library catalog describes it as a partial chart, so it is a historical artifact, not a complete or current tree of the family and its descendants.

Archivist Laura Kintz also reported more than 8,600 scanned graphic-material images, 52 bound volumes, and approximately 8,000 scanned pages across those volumes. These figures describe archival materials—not numbers of relatives or descendants.
