Prime Video lists “Season 4 Finale” as the eighth episode of an eight-episode season. It was released July 18, 2024, and runs 1 hour 8 minutes. Prime Video’s episode listing gives the title, date, and runtime.

2. Season 4 followed a weekly release schedule
Amazon’s Season 4 guide says three episodes premiered June 13, 2024, followed by one new episode each week until the July 18 finale. The finale date was therefore the end of the season’s original weekly rollout, not a separate later special.
3. Homelander ends the season with a path to effective control
In the finale’s political turn, a figurehead president is elected, leaving Homelander effectively in charge of America, according to the Los Angeles Times’ July 18, 2024 report. Firecracker’s slogan, “Make America Super Again,” underlines the show’s use of political spectacle and authoritarian imagery. This is a fictional outcome within the series, not a prediction about real events.

The finale ends with the anti-superhero vigilante group in custody. That reversal leaves the team facing the next season from a position of vulnerability rather than delivering a neat victory. The Los Angeles Times reports the roundup as the hour closes; it does not establish every character’s eventual fate.
5. The episode’s real-world timing was coincidental, and it includes a disclaimer
The finale aired July 18, 2024, on the final night of the Republican National Convention and days after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Pennsylvania. Showrunner Eric Kripke told the Los Angeles Times that the timing was not planned. Sony Pictures Television said the episode had been filmed the year before and that a title card was added.

The card reads: “This episode contains scenes of fictional political violence. Any similarities to recent events are completely coincidental and unintentional. Kripke also characterized the story as an expression of anxiety rather than a forecast: “I wouldn’t call it a reflection, but I would say this is our worst fear of a pushed version of society.” He added, “I’m not claiming it’s really going to get that bad, but it’s just us expressing our anxiety.” Those are the showrunner’s descriptions of intent, not claims that the plot is a literal account of current politics.

6. It is a cliffhanger before the final season, not the series finale
Season 5 was announced as the last season during Season 4 promotion. The Associated Press reported on June 11, 2024, that Kripke called it the “Final Season” and said that had been his plan. In the Los Angeles Times interview, he described the five-season story as a three-act structure, with Season 4 ending at the low point at the end of Act 2. His “apocalyptic” description explains why the finale leaves the characters facing a worse situation; it does not mean Season 4 concludes the story.
The Boys is based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, with Eric Kripke as showrunner. The finale’s cliffhanger continues the television adaptation’s own story rather than serving as a recap of the comic’s ending.
