Zeno is the supreme figure in the official Dragon Ball Super profile: he stands above the 12 universes and can erase one in an instant. His story debut comes in the manga’s Universe 6 versus Universe 7 tournament, where Goku’s casual friendliness helps turn a stern visit into a promise of a bigger competition.
15 things to know about Zeno
- He stands at the top of the multiverse. The Dragon Ball Official Site describes Zeno as the being at the top of all 12 universes, and says even Kais and Gods of Destruction show him the utmost respect. The official character showcase is dated September 6, 2022, and focuses on Zeno in the God of Destruction Champa arc.
- He can erase a universe instantly. The official profile warns that if someone crosses Zeno, he could erase their entire universe “in the blink of an eye.” That establishes the scale of his authority and power; it does not establish him as a martial artist.
- His manga debut is chapter 13. The official profile identifies Dragon Ball Super chapter 13 as Zeno’s first appearance. VIZ lists Dragon Ball Super, Chapter 13 with a publication date of December 16, 2016.
- He arrives during the Universe 6–Universe 7 tournament. The official profile calls it a surprise debut that shocked those who recognized him. The event is the Champa arc tournament, not the later Tournament of Power.
- His first business is a warning. Zeno initially objects to a tournament between universes being held without his approval. The official profile says he came to deliver a stern warning.
- The fights change his mood. As he watches the matches, Zeno becomes more entertained. The profile says that enjoyment leads him to suggest a much larger tournament involving all universes.
- Goku treats him like an ordinary person. Rather than responding with the deference shown by other powerful characters, Goku speaks to Zeno in his usual friendly manner. The official profile says this causes Zeno to take a liking to him.
- Their handshake seals a promise. The official site says Goku is excited by the idea of a contest of strength, and the two agree to hold it someday soon with a friendly handshake.
- The profile describes a child-like appearance, not a literal age. The official showcase uses child-like language about Zeno’s appearance. It does not establish his age, so appearance should not be treated as proof that he is literally a child.
- “Omni-King” is a title, not another character. The official profile uses “Omni-King” descriptively for Zeno. It refers to the same character, not a separate being.
- There were once 18 universes. Toei Animation’s Japanese character page says the number of universes once stood at 18 and that Zeno reduced it to 12. The page does not, in the retrieved description, establish a motive or full chronology for that reduction. Toei Animation’s Zeno character page.
- The Tournament of Power’s erasures are a separate event. A Dragon Ball Official Site story summary says universes erased during the Tournament of Power were later restored after Universe 7 won and Android 17 made a wish on the Super Dragon Balls. This restoration should not be confused with the earlier reduction from 18 universes to 12. The official Tournament of Power summary does not specify the total number of competing universes in the retrieved excerpt.
- The official showcase is manga-focused. It places Zeno’s debut in Dragon Ball Super chapter 13 and discusses the Champa arc. Its account should not be used on its own to establish details unique to the anime.
- His role is not the same as a fighter’s. The most striking fact about Zeno is his ability to erase universes, but the cited profile does not say that this makes him a technically skilled combatant. Destructive authority and martial-arts ability are different claims.
- The manga is the clearest way to read his debut. VIZ lists chapter 13 and separately catalogs Dragon Ball Super paperback editions. Its catalog includes a volume 13 listing, but the cited listing does not establish which volume contains chapter 13, so it is not a verified volume recommendation for Zeno’s first appearance. VIZ’s Dragon Ball Super paperback catalog.
Why are even the Gods of Destruction afraid of Zeno?
The official profile gives a direct answer: Zeno sits above all 12 universes and could erase an entire universe instantly. It says everyone, including Gods of Destruction and Kais, treats him with the utmost respect. The source describes his status and capacity for erasure; it does not claim that he is all-knowing or explain every character’s private reasons for fearing him.
