Former personal assistant Jennifer O’Neill’s allegations of unpaid overtime were contested by Gaga in deposition testimony; stylists and makeup artist Sarah Tanno, by contrast, have described particular creative relationships. The available reporting does not establish 14 distinct employee accounts, so this article separates the documented voices rather than inventing more.
Jennifer O’Neill’s account of the assistant job
O’Neill worked for Gaga’s touring company from February 2010 to March 2011, according to The Guardian’s 2011 report on her court filing. She alleged that she worked full-time, was on call day and night, and received no overtime pay. These are claims in a legal dispute, not findings that establish the conditions for Gaga’s staff generally. The Guardian’s account of the lawsuit gives the early version of her claim.
Travel and day-to-day responsibilities
In the filing as summarized by The Guardian, O’Neill said the work involved accompanying Gaga between stadiums, private jets, hotels, yachts, ferries, trains, and tour buses. She also listed tasks such as reviewing credit-card statements, checking meals, keeping personal supplies stocked, arranging towels, and acting as an alarm clock. Those details describe O’Neill’s account of her duties; they are not an independently verified job description.
The amount she sought changed in later coverage
The Guardian reported in December 2011 that O’Neill sought $380,000. In 2013, the Los Angeles Times and Pollstar reported a claim of $393,000 plus damages and an allegation of 7,168 overtime hours. The amounts belong to different stages of reporting and should not be combined; the hours total was O’Neill’s claim, not an established time record. The Los Angeles Times’ coverage of Gaga’s deposition and Pollstar’s report on both depositions describe the later dispute.

How Gaga responded in deposition
Gaga disputed O’Neill’s characterization of the schedule. As reported in 2013 by the Los Angeles Times, Gaga described the role as “a 9-to-5 job that is spaced out throughout the day,” while also saying staff were available when she needed them. She summarized that expectation this way: “This is — when I need you, you’re available.” These statements are Gaga’s position in deposition testimony and conflict with O’Neill’s account of being on call day and night.
Anticipating needs and handling belongings
Gaga said a strong assistant should anticipate what is needed and have it ready. She criticized O’Neill’s handling of luggage and belongings, and described relying on assistants and security for practical needs such as obtaining toiletries and organizing items among her bags. The testimony offers Gaga’s view of what the job required, not an agreed account of O’Neill’s performance.

The flight-bed dispute and friendship
A disagreement over who should use a bed on a private flight became a point of contention. The Los Angeles Times and Pollstar report Gaga’s account of the dispute; Pollstar also reports O’Neill’s separate testimony about sleeping arrangements and lack of privacy. The reports present opposing accounts, rather than a settled description of what happened. Gaga also recalled O’Neill invoking their friendship during an argument and said she no longer considered her a friend; that, too, is Gaga’s reported recollection.
Perks and what Gaga said she would do with an award
In her deposition, Gaga cited Egyptian-cotton sheets, five-star hotels, private planes, caviar, and access to clothing as benefits O’Neill had received. Those points were part of Gaga’s defense and do not by themselves answer whether overtime was owed. She also said, “I’m going to give all the money that she wants to my employees that work hard for me now that deserve it.” The statement records what Gaga said she intended, not evidence that she transferred money.

What members of Gaga’s creative team have said
Interviews with creative professionals describe a different side of work around Gaga: the development of performance and tour looks. These are individual accounts of specific roles and projects, not a basis for generalizing about every employee or the assistant dispute.
Tom Eerebout: an open-ended brief
Stylist Tom Eerebout told British Vogue, “You can put any ideas on the table because she wants to tell a story.” He also recalled creating about 10 street-style looks per day when he first met Gaga. The figure is his recollection of that period, not a formal workload statistic. British Vogue’s interview with Eerebout and Sandra Amador discusses the wardrobe work.

Sandra Amador and collaboration across the look
Marie Claire UK describes Eerebout and Sandra Amador working with hairstylist Frederic Aspiras and makeup artist Sarah Tanno to make the full look cohere. Eerebout characterized that process as collaborative. The account points to coordination among distinct creative roles, rather than a solo styling brief. Marie Claire UK’s interview about Gaga’s style evolution covers the team’s approach.
Sarah Tanno: a gradual path to full-time work
Makeup artist Sarah Tanno said she first worked on Gaga’s dancers, then spent years learning Gaga’s tastes and face before becoming full-time with her in 2014. Tanno called Gaga “the most loyal person” and said she helped open career opportunities for her. This is Tanno’s experience and does not mean she was Gaga’s full-time makeup artist throughout those earlier years. Refinery29’s interview with Tanno recounts that progression.

Why the headline’s count needs qualification
The published material supports several distinct statements from O’Neill, Gaga, Eerebout, Amador’s team context, and Tanno, but it does not support 14 independently sourced employee accounts. The assistant’s allegations and Gaga’s deposition response are two sides of one legal dispute, while the creative interviews concern particular collaborators and projects. Shangela’s account of Gaga’s warmth and her camp following up after a missed audition for A Star Is Born offers collaborator context, but the cited interview does not establish that Shangela was an employee. TIME’s interview with Shangela is about that film collaboration.
