Yes—Peter Dinklage has publicly described Lena Headey as a dear friend and recalled that they laughed together while making Game of Thrones. He also encouraged her to read the script that led to her role as Cersei. Those comments offer a few warm, specific glimpses of their working relationship, but they do not establish twelve separate private-life stories or prove the details of their friendship today.
What has Peter Dinklage said about Lena Headey?
He called her a dear friend in 2011
In a 2011 interview, Dinklage said, “Lena is a really dear friend, so I look forward to working with her.” It was a direct description of their relationship at the time, as well as an expression of enthusiasm about sharing scenes. Assignment X, 2011
He described laughing together in 2014
Three years later, Dinklage again called Headey a dear friend. In a 2014 Salon interview, he said, “And Lena, she’s also a dear friend and all we ever do is laugh together.” The statement describes his experience with her on the show; it is not evidence that every moment between them was playful.
How did they keep from laughing during serious scenes?
Dinklage said that sometimes the two actors avoided looking at each other so they would not break character and laugh: “Sometimes we have to avoid eye contact so we don’t crack up!!” That is a specific on-set recollection, not a claim about every scene they filmed. Salon, 2014

Did Peter Dinklage recommend Lena Headey for Cersei?
Yes. CBS’s 2019 60 Minutes report says Dinklage recommended Headey for the role of Cersei. Headey later recalled that they were working together on the independent film Pete Smalls Is Dead when he urged her to read the Game of Thrones script. “Pete said you’ve got to read this,” she told The Guardian. She said she trusted his judgment, adding, “if Pete’s reading it, it must be fucking great.” CBS News, 2019; The Guardian, 2019
That recommendation was a nudge to read the script, not a casting decision. Headey’s recollection credits Dinklage with encouraging her; it does not say that he cast her or controlled the production’s choice.

Why did Dinklage say he missed working with her?
In the same 2014 interview, Dinklage said, “I miss working with Lena.” He explained that he and Headey had fewer scenes together that season than he was used to, while Season 2 had included many scenes they shared. The comment reflects his feelings about their work together at that point in the series. Salon, 2014
What about the cast’s WhatsApp group?
Headey said the Game of Thrones cast had a large WhatsApp group, which she described as a daily pile-on. That is a cast-wide detail; it does not, by itself, show how often she and Dinklage communicated privately or whether they remain in regular contact. The Guardian, 2019

Were Tyrion and Cersei’s actors friends off screen?
Their characters have a tense sibling relationship in Game of Thrones, but that fictional conflict is separate from the actors’ reported rapport. Dinklage’s comments provide the clearest direct evidence: in interviews in 2011 and 2014, he called Headey a dear friend, recalled laughing with her, and said he missed working with her. Headey’s later account confirms that he encouraged her to read the script. These are statements made at specific times, not a complete record of their private lives or a confirmation of their present-day relationship.
