Wrestlers Who Used Songs by Major Artists as Entrance Themes

WWE sources document six wrestler-song pairings involving Living Colour, Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Disturbed and Saliva. The records also show why a famous band’s performance alone does not prove a song was a licensed commercial recording.

WWE records several wrestler entrances tied to songs by established recording artists, including CM Punk with Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality” and Stone Cold Steve Austin with Disturbed’s “Glass Shatters.” But “performed by an outside band” does not automatically mean “a pre-existing song licensed for wrestling”: some tracks were written or produced for a wrestler. The official sources cited here support six wrestler-song pairings, not a reliable list of ten, so this article distinguishes documented associations from what those records do—and do not—establish.

What counts as a licensed song?

A song can be associated with a wrestler in more than one way: it may be an existing commercial recording used for an entrance, a new wrestling theme created with an established band, or a track written and produced by WWE’s music team and performed by a known artist. Those categories are not interchangeable. A WWE source naming a band as performer establishes the association; it does not, by itself, establish that the recording existed independently or document the licensing agreement.

The examples below are drawn from WWE and WWE Corporate material. They are therefore best read as documented song-and-wrestler connections, with qualifications where the source does not settle the song’s origin or licensing status.

Documented wrestler and song pairings

Wrestler Song and credited artist What the source establishes
CM Punk “Cult of Personality” — Living Colour WWE’s entrance-theme retrospective directly connects the song with Punk. It does not detail the licensing arrangement. WWE’s entrance-theme retrospective
The Road Warriors “Iron Man” — Black Sabbath WWE says the duo entered to the song, while noting that fans may more readily associate them with their later WWE theme. The source establishes the entrance association, not licensing terms. WWE’s entrance-theme retrospective
Triple H “The Game” — Motörhead WWE identifies Motörhead as the performers of Triple H’s entrance theme. WWE also credits composer Jim Johnston with writing “The Game” for Triple H’s career, so the track should not be presented as an unrelated, pre-existing single. WWE’s entrance-theme retrospective and WWE’s Jim Johnston feature
Stone Cold Steve Austin “Glass Shatters” — Disturbed WWE’s 2002 announcement identifies it as Austin’s theme and includes it on the Forceable Entry compilation. That association does not establish the precise licensing or recording arrangement. WWE Corporate announcement, April 4, 2002
Batista “I Walk Alone” — Saliva A WWE interview identifies the song as Batista’s entrance theme. It does not specify whether this was a pre-existing commercial recording or a custom production. WWE’s interview with Saliva
Chris Jericho “King of My World” — Saliva The same WWE interview says Saliva wrote and sang the song for Jericho. That points to a wrestling-created track, not proof of an independently released song later licensed for an entrance. WWE’s interview with Saliva

Why the Triple H example needs context

“The Game” is a prominent example of a wrestler theme credited to a famous band, but the songwriting context matters. WWE’s Jim Johnston feature includes “The Game” among the songs he wrote for Triple H’s career, while WWE’s entrance-theme retrospective identifies Motörhead as the performers. That makes it more accurate to describe it as a wrestling theme written for the character and performed by Motörhead than as an unrelated Motörhead song simply adopted for an entrance.

WWE’s 2008 announcement makes a related distinction: it names Motörhead’s “Rock Out” as the event theme for Unforgiven and separately identifies “The Game” as Triple H’s entrance theme. The two tracks served different purposes in WWE programming. WWE Corporate announcement, September 3, 2008

Wrestler entrance songs and event themes are different

A wrestling broadcast may use a song to introduce an individual wrestler, or an event may have its own promotional theme. WWE Corporate’s 2006 announcement says the company licensed Peter Gabriel’s “Big Time” as the global music theme for WrestleMania 22. That is evidence of WWE using a licensed recording for an event; it is not a wrestler entrance example. WWE Corporate announcement, March 27, 2006

Keeping those uses separate avoids turning evidence about a pay-per-view soundtrack into evidence about a wrestler’s walkout music. Similarly, the fact that a band performed a theme does not, without more detail, tell us whether it was an existing recording, a commissioned composition, or a collaboration.

Why this cannot honestly be a verified list of ten

The official sources cited here establish six pairings: CM Punk, the Road Warriors, Triple H, Austin, Batista and Jericho. They do not verify ten unique wrestler-song pairings to the same standard, and they do not document licensing terms for every entrance. Adding four more names from recollection would make the count look complete without making it dependable.
