WWE’s ten most memorable weapons are not an official statistical ranking, but a list of objects made famous by signature wrestlers, recurring match use and defining moments. This countdown follows WWE’s 2011 retrospective, weighing each object’s character association, visual identity and role in notable matches.
How this countdown defines “iconic”
WWE published “The 10 most notorious weapons in WWE history” on December 5, 2011. Its choices are a historical editorial list—not a measured ranking, usage count or current audience survey. Here, “iconic” means an object is especially recognizable through a wrestler’s persona, repeated use or a memorable match story.
The 10 most iconic weapons in WWE history
1. Barbie, Mick Foley’s barbed-wire baseball bat
Foley’s bat, named Barbie, has an identity beyond being a generic weapon: WWE describes it as his weapon of choice and associates it with memorable moments across WWE, WCW, ECW and beyond. Its distinctive name and visual design make it one of wrestling’s most recognizable signature objects.
2. Steel chair
The folding chair is an enduring match-side object, used in stories ranging from title consequences to personal rivalries. WWE also highlights Edge and Christian’s Con-Chair-To, a double-chair attack that gave the familiar object a signature team move. The chair’s place on the list rests on both broad recognition and specific memorable uses.

3. Kendo stick, or Singapore cane
The kendo stick is closely associated with The Sandman, whose entrance and use of the cane helped make it part of his identity; WWE also notes its wider adoption. A WWE Magazine feature explains that the Japanese shinai is made from bamboo strips held together by leather straps, and connects Singapore-cane matches with ECW. The names are often used in wrestling contexts for the recognizable cane-like implement.
4. Triple H’s sledgehammer
For Triple H, the sledgehammer became a visual extension of his persona: an unmistakable prop whose appearance signaled an impending attack. WWE’s retrospective recalls multiple memorable uses, while a WWE Magazine feature describes its later in-ring role as destruction. Its place here comes from the strength of that character association, not a claim that it was the most frequently used weapon.

5. Hercules’ steel chain
WWE identifies the chain as Hercules’ signature weapon, used to defeat opponents. One especially memorable episode came when he and The Ultimate Warrior engaged in a tug-of-war that broke the chain. That moment made the object part of a character story as well as a source of threat.
6. Bull rope
The bull rope is less common than the chair or ladder, but its scarcity helps distinguish it. WWE points to Dusty Rhodes and “Superstar” Billy Graham as notable users in Texas Bull Rope Matches. Rather than a weapon that appears everywhere, it is tied to a specific match concept and the wrestlers who made that stipulation memorable.

7. Table
Tables became a familiar feature of the Attitude Era and remained central to high-impact match storytelling. WWE’s retrospective singles out Sheamus winning his first WWE Championship at TLC 2009: he put John Cena through a table in a Tables Match. In this case the object is memorable not only as a weapon, but as the defining condition of a championship-changing match.
8. Honky Tonk Man’s guitar
The guitar was a natural fit for Honky Tonk Man’s rockabilly persona and became his distinctive weapon. WWE also recalls Kane using it to eliminate Honky Tonk Man from the 2001 Royal Rumble. Its image is inseparable from the performer who carried it to the ring.

9. Brass knuckles
Brass knuckles are memorable for the role they play in a wrestling story: a concealed object can turn a match or title result when the referee or opponent does not see it. WWE recounts William Regal using them to defeat Edge for the Intercontinental Championship in 2002, and later in a tag-team title victory. Their dramatic function is the surprise rather than a signature entrance prop.
10. Ladder
The ladder’s legacy is bound to the match format built around it. WWE connects ladders with high-flyers and ladder matches, highlighting Shawn Michaels and examples involving Razor Ramon, Bret Hart, Sheamus and John Morrison. Few objects define an entire kind of match so clearly: the ladder is both the obstacle and the route to victory.

Iconic depends on the lens. A countdown centered on surprise or strangeness might choose different objects. WWE’s “Unlikely Weapons That Impacted WWE History” and “20 Strangest Foreign Objects” feature objects ranging from a tennis racket and urn to groceries, a plunger, a mop and popcorn. Those examples show how almost any prop can become memorable in the right match; this countdown prioritizes signature associations and enduring match identities.
Weapons in wrestling are performed match props, not practical examples
WWE’s Hell in a Cell retrospective recounts a chair and thumbtacks in the Undertaker–Mankind match, barbed-wire boards and thumbtacks at No Way Out in 2000, and a ladder in Undertaker’s 2008 match against Edge. These are accounts of performed wrestling spots, not evidence that such objects are safe to use outside that setting. Former ring official Tim White described the stakes of Hell in a Cell this way: “There’s no winner; only a survivor. And if you survive, your life will never be the same, anyway.”
