Which character does Theo James play in X-Men ’97?
James voices Bastion. Before the series premiered, his character was described only as a “fan-favorite character,” according to GameSpot’s episode-seven recap. “Bright Eyes,” the seventh episode of season one, identifies him as the figure behind the Genosha attack and Operation: Zero Tolerance.
GameSpot also notes that Bastion may have appeared earlier in a photograph on Forge’s wall in episode four, “Lifedeath 1.” In “Bright Eyes,” the reveal reframes the season’s violence as part of a larger plan rather than an isolated attack.
What Bastion’s reveal means for the story
GameSpot’s recap describes the immediate consequences of the Genosha assault: Gambit dies, Magneto survives and becomes Bastion’s prisoner, and Bastion learns that the X-Men had concealed the truth about Charles Xavier’s death. Those events connect the catastrophe to the team’s existing divisions and to the danger Bastion poses beyond Genosha.

How the series adapts Bastion from the comics
In the comics history summarized by GameSpot, Bastion is formed from Master Mold and Nimrod after they are forced through the Siege Perilous. Returning to Earth in a human body, he launches the Prime Sentinel program and targets the X-Men and their allies. The animated series draws on that anti-mutant campaign, while adding a new alliance with Mister Sinister, according to GameSpot.

For viewers curious about the source material, D23 identifies Chris Claremont’s comics run as important to the series’ creative roots, though it does not point to a particular edition or a direct tie-in collection. In a D23 behind-the-scenes feature, executive producer Brad Winderbaum describes the team’s premise this way: “The X-Men are a team that protects a world that hates and fears them.”

The release announcement establishes UK availability; viewers elsewhere should check Disney+ in their region.
