The scale of the source material helps explain why. About Amazon describes the saga as fourteen volumes plus one prequel, published from 1990 to 2013. Brandon Sanderson helped complete the final three novels after Jordan died in 2007. The books are optional companion reading, not a prerequisite for following the show. The Forsaken’s return and the heroes’ separate journeys provide the season’s broad shape; the strong aggregate reception suggests the series is connecting with many critics and viewers. If you want to explore the story beyond the screen, The Shadow Rising is the relevant book to pick up—but it is not required viewing preparation.
