Spoilers for Season 2, Episode 7, “Doomed to Die.” The battle for Eregion takes center stage as Adar’s army presses its siege, Celebrimbor’s work on the Nine advances, and Khazad-dûm’s rulers split over whether to intervene. The episode is listed on Prime Video as “Doomed to Die”; “War Comes to Eregion” is a recap headline, not the episode’s catalog title.
What happens in The Rings of Power season 2 episode 7?
“Doomed to Die” is the season’s penultimate episode, built around a siege that stretches through day and night. Rather than resolving the battle with a clean victory, it follows the decisions that shape Eregion’s defense and leaves the wider conflict moving toward the finale.
Prime Video’s official synopsis is the brief line, “Eregion’s fate is decided.” The platform lists the episode at 1 hour 12 minutes, released September 26, 2024. The synopsis does not spell out the battle’s final outcome.
How does Adar’s siege of Eregion unfold?
Adar’s forces alter the landscape to bring their army across the river: they dam the water around Ost-in-Edhil, creating a dry route toward the city. Elrond and Gil-galad lead a cavalry charge against the advancing force, but the attack changes course when Elrond sees Galadriel held captive in the enemy camp.

Elrond enters the camp to negotiate with Adar. The episode keeps the pressure on the defenders through the ensuing day and night, and the morning offers a view of the damage rather than the relief of reinforcements. TV Insider reports that the Battle of Eregion sequence took six weeks to film, and that Elrond realizes help from Durin and Disa is not coming.
Why do Durin III and Durin IV come into conflict?
In Khazad-dûm, Durin III learns that Eregion is under siege but refuses to send aid. He instead insists that the Dwarves continue mining deeper. Durin IV and Disa oppose the king’s choice and take a stand in the mine; other miners join them, turning the disagreement into a direct challenge to Durin III’s authority.
The Khazad-dûm story runs parallel to the battle outside Eregion: the Elves’ hope for help depends on a decision the Dwarven king will not make, while his son and Disa try to resist the course he has set.
What is Celebrimbor doing, and why does the episode title matter?
Celebrimbor’s forging of the Nine is placed near the episode’s beginning. Later, Galadriel leads refugees out of Eregion, followed by Celebrimbor’s final moments; the Dwarves arrive near the end. That ordering comes from the Digital Tolkien Project’s fan-maintained scene index, which is useful for orientation but is not an official transcript.

The phrase is a thematic reference, not a guarantee about any particular character’s fate.
What does Eregion’s history add to the siege?
In Letter 131, Tolkien describes Eregion as a major Elven settlement near the Dwarven realm, where the Elves made the Rings of Power using Sauron’s lore before the war between Sauron and the Elves. That background explains why the city’s siege carries weight beyond its immediate military stakes: it is tied to the history of the Rings and to the relationship between Elves and Dwarves.
The letter is context for Tolkien’s Second Age, not proof that the series reproduces his chronology, characterization, or every event exactly. The episode’s choices and sequence should be read as the show’s own account.

The episode establishes that Eregion is under severe pressure, that expected aid from Khazad-dûm has not reached Elrond by morning, and that the consequences of the siege are still unfolding. It does not provide a complete resolution of the conflict in Prime Video’s short synopsis. TV Insider identifies Episode 8 as the season finale, so the siege continues into the final installment.
