Khazad-dûm: the ring’s benefit comes with a cost
Durin III uses his ring to direct the Dwarves’ digging. They break through into a source of light, an apparent reprieve for Khazad-dûm. But the discovery also intensifies the king’s appetite for mining and wealth. He pushes to dig farther despite Durin IV’s concern about what may lie below the city.
Disa hears a roar from the depths. It plays as an ominous warning; the episode does not confirm the creature’s identity. The more immediate danger is visible in Durin III’s changed priorities: a tool that seems to help his people is also encouraging him to take greater risks.
Durin III presents the Seven Dwarven Rings to Dwarven lords. Durin IV sees a troubling change in his father and wonders whether the flaw lies with the makers. He brings that suspicion to Celebrimbor, setting the Eregion plot in motion.
Eregion: Annatar turns Celebrimbor’s suspicion against him
Celebrimbor is already uneasy about making rings for Men, and he has told Gil-galad that he shut the forge when he has not. When Durin IV raises concerns about the Seven, Celebrimbor confronts Annatar. Instead of answering the concern directly, Annatar redirects the conversation to Celebrimbor’s own lie and the consequences it could bring.

That maneuver works because it presses on two of Celebrimbor’s vulnerabilities at once: his guilt over deceiving Gil-galad and his fear that he will lose the chance to create. Annatar uses those fears to keep him at the forge. This is manipulation as the episode depicts it, not a clinical diagnosis.
Celebrimbor tells his smiths the work must continue to balance the project and redeem them. Production of the Nine begins, though he looks troubled. His choice is not an uncomplicated vote of confidence in Annatar; the episode makes the gap between his doubts and his actions part of the tension.
Númenor: Kemen kills Valandil
Pharazôn’s rule has deepened the divisions in Númenor. During a religious ceremony, Kemen disrupts the gathering and fights Valandil. Valandil breaks Kemen’s arm; Kemen then kills him with a ceremonial sword. Elendil is arrested in the aftermath. The violence turns the kingdom’s political conflict into a personal loss and a public display of power.

Elrond reaches Lindon and tells Gil-galad that Galadriel was right to warn of an attack on Eregion. Gil-galad recognizes Sauron’s role in the threat and the weakness of the Elves against the forces gathering there.
In the closing scene, Galadriel is a captive in Adar’s camp. Adar proposes an alliance against their common enemy. It is an uneasy offer, not a resolution: Galadriel has reason to distrust him, while the danger posed by Sauron gives the proposal its immediate force.
