Season 2, Episode 6 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power turns on characters choosing whom to trust—and what they are willing to risk. In Eregion, Annatar tightens his hold over Celebrimbor as Adar’s army approaches; in Númenor, Míriel risks her life rather than let Elendil face judgment alone. The episode is officially titled “Where Is He?”, runs 1 hour 3 minutes, and was released September 19, 2024, according to Prime Video. This recap contains spoilers.
What happens in “Where Is He?”
The episode links its separate storylines through a common question: who has leverage, and what will each character choose to do with it? The detailed scene account below follows GamesRadar+’s recap; the official synopsis from Prime Video highlights Galadriel considering a proposition, Elendil facing judgment, the Stranger reaching a crossroads, and Sauron’s plans bearing fruit.
Arondir discovers the route to Eregion
Arondir tracks two orc deserters and finds a map pointing toward Eregion. The discovery makes the threat to the Elven city more immediate, connecting his search to the danger gathering around Celebrimbor.
Annatar takes control as Celebrimbor falters
Celebrimbor is consumed by the work of making the Nine Rings for Men. He becomes impatient, forgetful, and increasingly isolated, while Annatar steps into practical authority in Eregion. The delayed mithril delivery adds pressure to the project. Annatar also encounters the words “Where is he?” cut into a body—a question that echoes Sauron’s search and the struggle surrounding his influence.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That imbalance is the episode’s central broken alliance: Celebrimbor is still the master craftsman, but Annatar is increasingly controlling what he sees and what the city can do. When alarms sound later, Celebrimbor tries to respond. Annatar stops him, and as Celebrimbor leaves the tower, he sees an illusion of peaceful Eregion concealing the attack outside.
Galadriel rejects Adar’s proposed alliance
Adar, holding Galadriel prisoner, proposes using Morgoth’s crown to rid Middle-earth of Sauron. Galadriel counters that Adar’s war may provide Sauron with the servants he needs. Their opposing aims make cooperation precarious: both claim to oppose Sauron, but Galadriel sees Adar’s campaign as a force that could strengthen him.

GamesRadar+ transcribes Adar warning her, “His eye bores a hole while the rest of him slithers in.” Treat that wording as the outlet’s transcription rather than a verified official script.
Elendil refuses Pharazôn’s terms
Pharazôn offers Elendil release if he renounces his actions and pledges loyalty. Elendil refuses. When a trial by abyss is proposed, Míriel takes his place; she survives the sea creature and is judged innocent. Pharazôn later looks into the Palantír and sees a troubling vision. His political authority has not secured Elendil’s allegiance, while Míriel’s choice exposes her to mortal danger.

The Stranger faces a choice of loyalty
Tom Bombadil challenges the Stranger to choose between his friends and his destiny. The episode leaves that choice unresolved, but makes the cost of each path explicit: a larger purpose may demand distance from the people who have become his companions.
Elsewhere, Poppy speaks with Gundabel about the Stoors’ attachment to their home. GamesRadar+ transcribes Gundabel saying, “It’s not just where we live, it’s our home.” The exchange gives the Stranger’s dilemma a quieter parallel: belonging is not merely a place or an obligation, but a bond worth protecting.

Durin III’s ring divides father and son
In Khazad-dûm, Durin III’s use of his ring is associated with wealth accumulating in the kingdom. Annatar offers timber—or something more precious—in exchange for mithril, but Durin refuses. Prince Durin urges his father to remove the ring; the king shoves him away. Disa uses her singing to summon bats and block access to the mines, another effort to keep the kingdom’s resources out of reach.
The ring gives Durin III confidence and bargaining power, but it also turns a disagreement over mithril into a family rupture. GamesRadar+ also reads a fiery apparition during the Durin–Annatar conversation as Balrog-like imagery; that is an Easter-egg interpretation, not confirmation of a future event.

How the episode’s alliances shift
| Storyline | Who holds leverage? | The choice or risk |
|---|---|---|
| Eregion | Annatar increasingly controls Celebrimbor’s environment and response, even as Celebrimbor makes the rings. | Celebrimbor tries to answer the attack, but Annatar’s deception leaves the city vulnerable. |
| Khazad-dûm | Durin III has the ring and controls access to mithril; Annatar wants the metal. | Durin refuses the bargain, while his son challenges the ring’s hold over him. |
| Númenor | Pharazôn wields political authority; Míriel chooses to face the trial herself. | Elendil will not trade loyalty for release, and Míriel accepts the trial’s danger. |
| Adar and Galadriel | Adar has Galadriel captive and offers a shared enemy as grounds for cooperation. | Galadriel warns that his war could strengthen Sauron rather than defeat him. |
| The Stranger | Tom Bombadil puts the decision to the Stranger. | He must weigh his friends against the destiny Bombadil insists he face. |
What the ending sets up
Adar’s army attacks Eregion while Celebrimbor remains inside the tower, cut off from the reality of the assault by Annatar’s illusion. The cliffhanger is not simply that the city is under attack; it is that its most important defender cannot see what is happening, and the person controlling his perception has prevented him from responding. Arondir’s discovery of the map has already pointed toward Eregion, but the immediate danger now converges on Celebrimbor and the Nine Rings.
Music and Tolkien background
For listeners who want the score, Amazon Music lists a digital Episode Six soundtrack dated September 19, 2024, with nine tracks and a total length of 39 minutes. The listing includes “Celebrimbor’s Burden,” “Trial by Abyss,” “The Legions of Adar,” and “The Siege Begins”; availability may vary.
Bear McCreary’s broader Season Two score was also announced in physical formats: ADA / Warner Music Group’s release sheet lists 2xCD and 2xLP editions with a November 29, 2024 street date. These are season-wide soundtrack editions, not an episode-six-only album. In an About Amazon cast interview, Celebrimbor actor Charles Edwards said he drew on Tolkien’s Unfinished Tales and described the character as secretly jealous, wanting to rival his grandfather’s fame and skill. That is Edwards’s account of his character work, not a claim that the episode directly adapts the book.
Easter eggs: what is interpretation, not confirmation
GamesRadar+ points to several visual or textual details as Easter eggs: a Balrog-like fiery image, Pharazôn’s use of the Palantír, a mention of the Silmarils, and possible echoes between Adar’s army and beacon imagery from The Lord of the Rings. These are the outlet’s readings of the episode, not official statements about the images’ intended meaning or what will happen next.
