Spoilers for all 15 contestants: The US edition of The Masked Singer season 12 ran from September 25 to December 18, 2024. Boyz II Men won as the Buffalos, with Mario as Wasp finishing second. This guide identifies every mask and summarizes reported clues, while distinguishing what appeared on the show from interpretations of what those clues might mean.
How the season’s clues worked
Clues appeared in costumes, song choices, clue packages and on-stage moments. Former contestants serving as Masked Ambassadors also introduced singers with clues based on personal connections. FOX described these clue channels in its season preview and premiere press release.
A prop or phrase is not automatically a confirmed biography clue: packages mix direct references with wordplay and misdirection, and panel guesses remain guesses. The summaries below report clue material from the season’s packages and performances; interpretations are identified as readings, not definitive explanations. For exact wording and context, consult the episodes or official clips. Detailed package descriptions are reported in a season clue roundup.
Every mask and revealed identity
The season had 15 contestants across three groups. The list below includes the ambassadors, who introduced singers with personal-connection clues but were not themselves proof of any particular identity guess. Identity and ambassador pairings are listed in the season overview; FOX independently covered the premiere reveal and finale outcome.

Group A clues and reveals
Leaf Sheep — John Elway
Ambassador DeMarcus Ware connected the singer to people who had run in the same circles and called him a GOAT. In the package, a quarter prompted a quarterback interpretation from the panel. Elway performed Tim McGraw’s “I Like It, I Love It” and became the season’s first reveal. FOX reported that he was a two-time Super Bowl champion. After unmasking, Elway said, “That was definitely not my comfort zone doing this, but I had the opportunity and took advantage of it.” See the FOX premiere recap.
Showbird — Yvette Nicole Brown
Joel McHale introduced Showbird. Reported clues included a light, show-business-oriented package, and Brown sang Mary J. Blige’s “Just Fine.” She was eliminated in the second episode. The package details and performance are summarized in the clue roundup; the season overview records her reveal.
Woodpecker — Marsai Martin
Jenifer Lewis introduced Woodpecker with references to business ambition and a connection with Beyoncé. Reported package details included an SAT answer sheet, a “family” gate, sports tape marked “next” and a Beyoncé image. Martin spoke about wanting to become the youngest billionaire. She performed Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers.” These are the show’s reported clues, rather than confirmation that every prop had one intended biographical meaning.
Ship — Paula Cole
Jewel served as ambassador. The reported clue package used nautical imagery and wordplay; Cole sang “Almost Paradise,” then Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way.” She was unmasked in the Group A episode.

Group B clues and reveals
Dust Bunny — Andy Richter
Dick Van Dyke’s introduction played on collecting dust and “sweeping” the competition. The package described an early coffee-making job, a stand-in opportunity and later screen work. Reported props included coffee, a racecar flag, and photos referencing Anne Hathaway, David Bowie and Marlon Brando. Richter performed “Sweet Caroline.”
Chess Piece — Laverne Cox
Nikki Glaser introduced Chess Piece as a fashion-forward friend and “game-changer.” The package used a pawn, protection, bold moves, a crown and leading-role language; reported props included red lips, a safe, paparazzi and previous masks. Cox sang Cher’s “Believe.” A tennis-shoe clue appeared during Sports Night.
Bluebell — Natalie Imbruglia
Kelly Osbourne was Bluebell’s ambassador. Reported clues referred to rumors linking the singer with famous partners, finding true love and “having a moment.” The package included a script page, gossip-magazine imagery, a blue guitar with a phoenix and ripped blue jeans. Imbruglia performed Pat Benatar’s “We Belong.”
Macaron — Bethany Hamilton
Willie Robertson’s introduction referred to a life-changing event and resilience. The package spoke of a rare, life-altering event, fighting hard and pursuing a dream; reported visuals included ocean and nature imagery and a clapboard. Hamilton performed Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.” The show’s clue language is not a substitute for Hamilton’s own account of her life.

Group C clues and reveals
Ice King — Drake Bell
Hanson introduced Ice King with references to a secret, chart success and receiving early help in a music career. The package described returning after years away from Hollywood and singing; reported imagery included a crowd, speakers, shattered ice and a passport. Bell’s first song was Hot Chelle Rae’s “Tonight Tonight.”
Royal Knight — Jana Kramer
Savannah Chrisley introduced Royal Knight as a fierce friend. The package framed its clues with a fairytale pop-up book, armor, a silver crown, a glass slipper, a castle, a dragon and the phrase “you and I.” Kramer performed Lady Gaga’s “Yoü and I.” The fairytale imagery is the show’s framing, not a complete account of her personal history.
Sherlock Hound — Bronson Arroyo
Barry Zito’s ambassador remarks referred to friendship and jam sessions. The package described a musical family, a grandmother who taught music, a father who played keys, an unwanted cello and a turn toward rock. Reported props included a diamond record, red guitar and eyepatch. Arroyo sang Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Under the Bridge.”
Goo — Kobie Turner
Keenan Allen introduced Goo. Reported sports-and-music imagery included a tackle box, science lab, toy train, French horn and falling rocks. A later golden-cleats clue used the line “focus on the soul… of the shoes.” Turner performed Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control.” During the unmasking sequence, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg used the Ding Dong Keep It On bell to save Goo, so he continued in the competition and is included in the 15-contestant count.

Strawberry Shortcake — AJ Michalka
Hayley Orrantia introduced Strawberry Shortcake. The package described a goal of performing at a major music festival and eventually opening one. Reported props included a plush cat, social-media imagery, sunglasses and animated emojis. Michalka’s first performance was Kacey Musgraves’s “Slow Burn.”
Finale masks and season result
Wasp — Mario
Ne-Yo’s ambassador remarks referred to knowing Wasp since early in his career and offering advice. Wasp’s performances and the finale established the musical connection; Mario finished as runner-up. FOX reported Mario’s reflection after the reveal: “This gave me the chance to tap back into that kid that didn’t get that chance to be a kid.” The FOX finale recap also reported that he started in the industry at age 15.
Buffalos — Boyz II Men
Nick Lachey was the group’s ambassador. The three-person costume and group harmonies are readily observable clues; finer meanings should be treated as interpretation unless tied to a specific episode or official clip. FOX reported that the Buffalos were revealed as Boyz II Men and won season 12.
Who won The Masked Singer season 12?
Boyz II Men won as the Buffalos. Mario, unmasked as Wasp, finished second. FOX’s finale recap covers the reveal and result.
