It did not publish a complete costume roster or detailed official descriptions of Wasp and Sherlock Hound. Here is what FOX announced—and what later season reporting established.
What FOX announced for Season 12
FOX scheduled the U.S. season premiere for Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The network said clues would be embedded in contestants’ costumes, song choices, packages and on-stage moments. Host Nick Cannon summed up the approach in FOX TV Stations’ July 24 first-look report: “There are clues everywhere.” FOX’s season announcement
Which new costume did FOX reveal before the season?
Strawberry Shortcake
On September 5, FOX TV Stations reported that FOX Entertainment had unveiled Strawberry Shortcake ahead of the season. The report said the character would dance and compete on stage, but did not identify the performer beneath the costume. It did not provide a complete list of Season 12 costumes. What are Wasp and Sherlock Hound?
Wasp and Sherlock Hound are names associated with Season 12’s masked contestants, but the official FOX pre-season coverage reviewed here does not give detailed descriptions of either costume. Nor does it identify the performers beneath them. A secondary season overview links Wasp with Mario and Sherlock Hound with Bronson Arroyo; those are retrospective identifications, not evidence of official design details in FOX’s pre-season announcements. That distinction matters: a contestant’s eventual identity does not establish details about the mask or outfit, and the available official reports do not support inventing visual features. FOX’s announcement instead emphasized that audiences could look for clues across costumes, song choices, contestant packages and stage moments.
What theme nights did FOX announce?
FOX described a mix of tributes and themed episodes. These are announced episode themes, not confirmation of a merchandise partnership.

What happened in the premiere?
FOX TV Stations reported that Leaf Sheep was the first contestant unmasked in the September 25 premiere and identified the performer as two-time Super Bowl champion John Elway. The report also said each singer was introduced by a Masked Ambassador: a previous contestant with a strong connection to the current singer. These are premiere-night outcomes, separate from what FOX had revealed about costumes before the season began. FOX TV Stations’ premiere report
