In Week 2 of The Golden Bachelorette, Joan Vassos’s first dates after the men move into shared quarters pair playful competition with conversations about grief and finding love again. Jonathan’s prom-king moment stands out, while Chock and Dan each earn a date rose. Bob, Michael, Christopher and Jack go home at the rose ceremony.
This is a spoiler-inclusive recap of the episode that aired September 25, 2024. The season originally ran on ABC from September 18 to November 13, 2024; those are historical broadcast dates, not current viewing guidance. Entertainment Weekly’s recap was written by TV critic Kristen Baldwin.
What happens in Week 2?
After moving into shared rooms, the men joke about top bunks and limited closet space. The lighthearted settling-in gives way to three dates that put Joan and the contestants in very different settings: a prom, Disneyland and a talent show.
The prom date gives Jonathan a memorable moment
Joan takes eight men to a prom-themed group date. Jonathan shares a painful memory from high school, and Joan responds sympathetically. She later names him prom king; the recap reports that she says dancing with him feels special and that she can imagine a future with him. It is a notable romantic beat, though the date’s group setting means Jonathan does not receive the episode’s one-on-one rose.

Chock’s Disneyland date connects through loss
Joan and Chock spend their one-on-one date at Disneyland, riding attractions and sharing a churro. Their conversation turns to finding love after losing spouses, a theme that gives the date its emotional center. Chock receives the date rose.
Dan wins the talent show
At the second group date, the men perform in a talent showcase. Dan’s ribbon dance wins the contest. In the episode, he and Joan also discuss his health history and his choice to focus on taking care of himself; those details are his account on the program, not independent medical reporting. Dan receives the group-date rose.

How grief shapes the episode
Under the comedy of bunk-bed and closet jokes, the dates keep returning to the challenges of building a relationship after bereavement. Joan and Chock compare their experiences of losing spouses, while other conversations touch on grief and family. The episode’s romantic momentum comes less from grand declarations than from the contestants explaining what they have lived through and what they hope for next.
Who received roses, and who went home?
Joan holds a cookout instead of a formal cocktail party, giving the men more time to talk before the ceremony. The following men receive roses and continue: Mark, Gary, Pascal, Jordan, Charles “CK” K., Keith, Gil, Charles L., Kim, Gregg, Guy, Jonathan, Chock and Dan.

Bob, Michael, Christopher and Jack are eliminated. The ceremony is relatively low-drama compared with the episode’s more vulnerable date conversations; that is a critical impression of the installment, not a measured fact.

The episode’s contrast is its main source of movement: the prom and talent show invite silliness, while the conversations about loss bring the stakes back to Joan’s search for a lasting relationship. Jonathan receives the prom-king recognition, but the date roses go to Chock and Dan. The cookout offers a relaxed pause before the more consequential rose ceremony.
