Spoilers for Severance Season 2, Episode 10, “Cold Harbor.” Gemma makes it out of Lumon alive, but Mark does not leave with her. At the exit, Mark and Gemma switch back to their innie selves. Gemma crosses the door; innie Mark turns back to run with Helly. The finale shows Gemma calling after him, but it does not reveal what happens to either of them next.
What happens in the “Cold Harbor” finale?
In Season 2’s final episode, Cobel tells innie Mark that Gemma is alive and helps him understand how to reach her. Mark’s completed Macrodata Refinement files are connected to new innies for Gemma, and “Cold Harbor” is the last one.

The Cold Harbor room contains an empty crib, a painful reminder of the history Mark and Gemma share. Gemma’s Cold Harbor innie dismantles it without the emotional response Lumon is testing for. Mark completes the file, while Helly and Dylan create a distraction that helps him get to the Testing Floor.
Mark finds Gemma in the room and persuades her to leave. As they reach the elevator, they switch back to their innies. Mark leads Ms. Casey toward the exit; when she crosses the door, she becomes her outie self again: Gemma.

Does Mark leave Lumon with Gemma?
No. Gemma crosses the exit, but innie Mark stays inside. When Helly appears behind him, Mark looks between her and Gemma, then turns back and runs with Helly. Gemma is left outside, alive and calling after him.
That makes the ending a rescue without a reunion. Gemma gets out of Lumon, but Mark’s innie does not follow her. The episode ends before showing what Gemma does next or whether Mark and Helly escape.

Why does Mark stay with Helly?
The finale shows Mark choosing Helly, but it does not give a definitive explanation for what he will do or why. One way to read the choice is that innie Mark has formed his own attachments and sees himself as a person with a life of his own, distinct from the outie Mark who came to Lumon to recover Gemma. That interpretation fits the choice on screen; the episode leaves its longer-term meaning unresolved.
What is “Cold Harbor” testing?
“Cold Harbor” is the final Gemma-related file Mark completes. The episode links it to Lumon’s effort to create and test new innies for her. Its central test is made concrete through the crib: Gemma’s Cold Harbor innie takes it apart without the emotional reaction associated with Mark and Gemma’s shared loss.

What the finale leaves unanswered
- Whether Mark and Helly get out of Lumon.
- What Gemma does after reaching the outside.
- Whether the innies and outies will reunite or communicate again.
The final image establishes Gemma’s escape and Mark’s decision to turn back; it does not settle what follows. In a TV Guide interview published March 21, 2025, Gemma actor Dichen Lachman described filming the reunion scene as a sudden shift from Cold Harbor Gemma’s state into seeing Mark: “Adam’s such a wonderful scene partner, and even though there’s a lot of technical things that we had to achieve in that moment — going from Cold Harbor Gemma into Gemma seeing Mark, jumping into that emotion all of a sudden, like the lights came on inside her — but once it got going, it just felt quite emotional for me, maybe because I’ve been living with the character and the story for so long.”
