A March 21, 2026 AOL Entertainment article says Kogonada may direct most of the new season in place of Ben Stiller; the article itself notes that Apple had not confirmed the claim.
What is confirmed about Severance Season 3?
Apple TV Press announced the Season 3 renewal on March 21, 2025. The announcement describes Ben Stiller as a director and executive producer and Dan Erickson as the show’s creator, writer and executive producer, but it does not assign either person—or anyone else—to Season 3 episodes. Apple’s renewal announcement confirms the renewal, not a Season 3 directing roster.

Is Kogonada replacing Ben Stiller?
That possibility was reported by Liam Gaughan in AOL Entertainment’s March 21, 2026 article, “‘Severance’ Season 3 Could Be Facing a Colossal Change.” The article says Kogonada may replace Stiller as director of most Season 3 episodes, while explicitly noting Apple had not confirmed the claim. It should therefore be treated as an unconfirmed report—not an announced production change. Read the AOL Entertainment report.
What Apple has—and has not—announced
Apple’s renewal notice gives no Season 3 start date, release date, episode count or directing assignments. The renewal alone does not establish any of those details. Stiller’s remarks in the announcement are about his experience making the series, not a confirmation of his Season 3 role: “Making ‘Severance’ has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” he said.
