| April 12, 2025 | SNL published the Chen Biao clip. NBC also lists a separate Weekend Update item that day about Trump pausing tariffs for 90 days. NBC catalog | These are two distinct clips; the 90-day-pause item is not the Chen Biao segment. |
| May 2025 | The White House said the United States and China would each lower tariffs by 115 percentage points while retaining an additional 10% tariff, with both sides to take the stated actions by May 14. White House statement | This describes the announced May arrangement, not a rate applicable to every product or a current rate. |
| August 11, 2025 | The White House said the United States would maintain suspension of heightened tariffs on Chinese imports until November 10, 2025, while the 10% reciprocal tariff remained in effect during the suspension. What figures help put the dispute in context?
A 2025 White House fact sheet reported a $295.4 billion U.S. goods trade deficit with China in 2024, calling it the largest U.S. goods trade deficit with any trading partner. This is the White House’s reported figure. White House fact sheet
The Associated Press reported in September 2026 that U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods had reached as high as 145% at one point in 2025. That is a reported historical peak, not a single rate covering all Chinese goods in October 2026. Tariffs can vary by product and category, and headline figures from different moments may refer to different layers or coverage.
