On the October 3, 2026 episode of Saturday Night Live, Michael Che’s Weekend Update remarks about men holding other men accountable became a pointed exchange with Colin Jost. The joke’s target emerged through its staging: coverage described repeated camera cuts to Jost and a reference to privileged Ivy League men—an unmistakable nudge at the Harvard alumnus.
What happened on Weekend Update
Che brought up the Cornell 7 story while discussing men holding other men accountable. As he spoke, the camera repeatedly cut to Jost; coverage also reported that Che referred to “weird privileged Ivy League types.” Together, the visual cue and the reference made Jost the implied target of the joke. CinemaBlend and The Guardian described the staging, rather than publishing a verified transcript. CinemaBlend’s recap and The Guardian’s recap provide accounts of the exchange.
The humor depended on the contrast between a broad-sounding point about accountability and the camera’s decision to keep bringing the line back to Jost. The joke should not be read as suggesting Jost had any connection to the alleged conduct at Cornell.
What “Cornell 7” refers to
The shorthand refers to a civil lawsuit alleging that a woman was assaulted by seven students at a Cornell fraternity house in 2024. That is an allegation in a lawsuit, not an established legal finding. The Independent’s report describes the matter in those terms: The Independent.
