What did Chappelle say about the Los Angeles fires and Trump?
The monologue arrived amid the January 2025 Southern California wildfires. The Los Angeles Times reported that Chappelle joked about the fires and celebrities whose homes were affected, then brought Trump into the set, including campaign-era claims about Haitians in Ohio. Those were jokes and references within the performance, not a factual account of the people or events.

Why did the monologue turn to Jimmy Carter and Palestine?
After the topical jokes, Chappelle spoke about former president Jimmy Carter, praising Carter’s book and his trips to the region, the Los Angeles Times reported. The Atlantic likewise described the Carter anecdote as part of a monologue that took place shortly before Trump’s second inauguration.
