Is Love & Death based on a true story?
Yes. The series is based on the real case involving Candy Montgomery and Betty Gore in Wylie, Texas. It is a dramatized adaptation, however, not a court transcript; scenes, dialogue, and portrayals of character motivation should be understood as the series’ interpretation rather than assumed to be documented historical fact.
Netflix Tudum’s December 4, 2025 account dates the affair’s start to December 12, 1978, says it continued until shortly after Betty gave birth in July 1979, and places the fatal confrontation on June 13, 1980, while Allan was away on a business trip. Those dates are Tudum’s account of the case chronology. The sources cited here do not establish the trial evidence or the jury’s reasoning, so this guide does not draw conclusions about either.
