Why does Walt leave the sheriff’s job?
Walt’s departure marks a break from the office that has defined much of his life in the series. Rather than ending with another term or a settled retirement, he turns toward an uncertain personal pursuit: finding the treasure Lucian said he had found. The finale does not confirm that Walt finds it.

His encouragement for Cady to seek the sheriff’s job suggests a handoff, not a completed succession. There is no confirmed election result in the ending.
What happens to Henry, Cady, and Vic?
Henry takes over the casino
After the final confrontation, Henry assumes responsibility for Jacob Nighthorse’s casino. The series leaves his management of it in the future rather than depicting a long-term outcome.

Cady is encouraged to run for sheriff
Walt proposes Cady as a possible successor and urges her to run. That is an invitation toward public office, not proof that she accepts, campaigns, or becomes sheriff.
Walt and Vic begin a relationship
The finale brings Walt and Vic into a romantic relationship. It establishes a new possibility for them, but does not show how long the relationship lasts or what their life together becomes.

What does the ending mean?
One way to read the finale is as a story about departures and succession rather than tidy, completed futures. Walt gives up the role that has anchored his life and sets off on a personal quest; Henry accepts a new responsibility; and Cady is offered a path into public office. Walt and Vic’s relationship is another beginning, not a final answer.
The episode title, “Goodbye Is Always Implied,” fits that pattern: the characters are moving on, while the series leaves their next chapters unwritten. That is an interpretation of the ending, not a confirmed statement of the writers’ intent.

What does the finale leave unresolved?
- Whether Cady runs for sheriff or wins the job.
- Whether Walt finds Lucian’s treasure.
- How Henry manages the casino over time.
- Whether Walt and Vic’s relationship lasts.
These are open possibilities, not events the finale confirms. The episode gives the characters new directions without supplying a long-range epilogue.
