Spoilers for the Season 2 finale of Landman. “Tragedy and Flies,” Season 2, Episode 10, gives the show a brisk, consequential ending: Tommy Norris loses his job at M-Tex, then starts imagining a new path in the oil business, while Cooper’s legal trouble and a startling highway crash raise the stakes. The episode is an effective finale, though not a cure for the season’s uneven focus and sharp tonal shifts.
Does the “Landman” Season 2 finale work?
Mostly, yes. “Tragedy and Flies” is at its strongest when it brings the story back to Tommy’s work and forces him to make a choice about what comes next. His firing gives the episode a clear engine, and the proposed venture with Cooper’s wells gives the ending momentum. The finale also moves several family and business stories forward rather than resolving everything neatly.
That focus is a welcome change of emphasis, not proof that every strand of Season 2 has been equally well built. The episode still jumps between an oil-business drama, family conflict, college life and an abrupt action sequence. Depending on your tolerance for that volatility, the shifts can feel either lively or chaotic.
What happens to Tommy after M-Tex fires him?
After Cami Miller fires him, Tommy considers whether to join another oil company or return to working independently as a landman. He approaches Gallino about honoring Cooper’s original contract and financing three additional wells, according to TVLine’s finale recap. The idea gives Tommy a possible route out of his immediate professional crisis, but it is a proposal—not a confirmed new arrangement or a Season 3 outcome.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
This is the finale’s most useful turn because it makes Tommy’s job loss more than a setback. It pushes him to consider what kind of work he wants and whether he can build something outside M-Tex. The open question is whether the season has done enough to prepare that direction, or whether the finale is relying on the appeal of a fresh possibility.
What happens to Cooper, and does Rebecca help him?
Cooper is questioned by police after beating Johnny while defending Ariana. Rebecca, acting as his lawyer, challenges the detectives’ handling of the interrogation and the unequal treatment of violence. Her intervention puts the family’s personal conflict into contact with the area’s business and pipeline interests, as described in TVLine’s recap.

The plot raises the stakes without making the legal outcome a tidy finale resolution. Cooper’s situation remains a source of uncertainty, while Rebecca’s response gives her a consequential role in the immediate crisis.

Tom’s Guide’s Malcolm McMillan sees the development as meaningful for Ainsley, while Sophia Nguyen’s Washington Post review connects it to a possible theme of people from different backgrounds finding common purpose through work. The scene offers a quieter counterpoint to the episode’s business maneuvering and danger.
Why does the finale’s ending feel so wild?
A multi-vehicle highway crash supplies the episode’s most immediate danger. Tommy survives without being hit, and the sequence arrives with the sort of abruptness that captures the show’s taste for sudden escalation. It can play as an exhilarating jolt—or as another sharp turn in a season already moving among several different modes.

The crash does not settle Tommy’s business future or the family’s problems. Its function is more visceral: it closes the episode on a near-disaster and leaves the story in motion.

The finale has a stronger case than a simple “the season was fixed” verdict. Tom’s Guide’s Malcolm McMillan gives it four out of five stars and argues that it restores his interest in another season. His positive assessment centers on Tommy’s career story regaining focus, several threads getting consequential turns and the dramatic closing sequence. He writes, “Yes, that’s right. Sheridan has done it again. He’s crafted a season finale that saved an uneven season of television.” That is McMillan’s opinion, not a consensus judgment.

The Washington Post’s Sophia Nguyen is more critical of Season 2’s erratic subjects and tone, including its gender politics, but still calls the finale surprising and entertaining. The difference matters: an effective episode can deliver momentum without erasing weaknesses in the season around it.
Is Tommy done with M-Tex for good?
The episode establishes that Cami has fired Tommy and shows him exploring an independent direction involving Cooper’s wells and Gallino. It does not confirm whether he will return to M-Tex, accept another company job or make the proposed partnership work. The finale leaves that decision open rather than announcing what Season 3 will do.
