Spoilers for “In the Name of the Father.” Episode 6 reveals that Ingrid’s missing father was a circus performer who used the Pennywise persona—and that the supernatural entity has exploited her longing to see him again. It ends with armed, masked men converging on the Black Spot, leaving the gathering under immediate threat.
A girl at Juniper Hill sees the clown
“In the Name of the Father” opens in 1935 at Juniper Hill. A young girl named Mabel talks about a clown and is taken down to the basement, where Pennywise appears. The short prologue plants the episode’s central horror in a human story: a familiar face and persona can be used to draw someone close to something monstrous.
The sewer encounter leaves the group fractured
In 1962, the children are dealing with the aftermath of their encounter in the sewers and Pauly’s death. Leroy blames Will for going underground, while Will refuses to give up on his friends. Their clash is not simply about rules: Leroy is trying to protect his family by keeping Will away from danger, but his fear is narrowing his judgment. Will sees that fear as a reason to act, not a reason to abandon the others.
Lilly also wants to act. She believes the dagger- or pillar-like object made the creature retreat and argues that they should return to the sewer. Ronnie resists. Their argument brings grief and blame to the surface, but the episode frames Ronnie’s fear as part of the group’s trauma rather than proof that she does not care.

Hallorann can no longer keep the visions contained
Hallorann tells Leroy that he has reopened the mental “box” where he kept distressing visions. Since the events underground, he has been seeing the dead and hearing voices. That makes the sewer encounter’s cost personal for Hallorann, while also complicating Leroy’s belief that the danger can be managed simply by controlling where the children go.
Rich and Marge find room for closeness
Against the episode’s fear and conflict, Rich and Marge’s friendship deepens. Marge faces bullies who mock her injured eye and responds with agency of her own. Their scenes offer a quieter counterweight to the horror: the children are still forming loyalties and finding ways to stand up for one another, even as the threat around them grows.

Lilly learns why Ingrid is waiting for Pennywise
Lilly visits Ingrid and finds family photographs that lead to the episode’s most important reveal. Ingrid says her missing father, Bob Gray, was a local circus performer who performed as Pennywise. She stayed in Derry hoping he would return, and she tried to bring him back.
That history does not mean the human Bob Gray and the supernatural entity are simply the same being. Ingrid has attached her hope for her father to the clown identity; IT exploits that longing, using the resemblance and her memories to manipulate her. The episode’s account connects this deception to Mabel’s death: after killing the girl, the entity uses remembered music and the appearance of Ingrid’s father. What Ingrid wants to recover is a relationship with a missing person. What answers her is the creature wearing a persona she recognizes.
