Tommy sees the threat; Cooper does not yet know who is backing him.
What does the ending reveal about Cooper’s deal?
Nate identifies Gallino as the backer behind Sonrisa, the company financing Cooper’s wells. Cooper entered the arrangement without knowing who stood behind the money. Tommy recognizes the significance immediately and warns Cooper that the partnership is a serious problem.
That difference in what the two men know creates the ending’s suspense. Cooper has reason to celebrate the oil strike, but Tommy understands that the source of the financing may turn the success into a liability. The episode reveals Gallino’s connection to Sonrisa; it does not yet show what Cooper will do once he learns the identity of his backer.
What does Tommy tell Cooper about his childhood?
On the drive after visiting T.L., Tommy tells Cooper that he grew up with an abusive father and a mother struggling with drug use. The disclosure gives context to the painful history between Tommy and T.L., and to why Tommy is so alert to the ways parents can pass harm on to their children.

Cooper tells Tommy that he loves him and that Tommy’s best was good enough. Tommy says he avoided repeating the cycle. Cooper’s response does not deny the damage Tommy describes; instead, it recognizes that Tommy’s effort mattered, even if he was not the father Cooper needed in every way.
Why do the business reveal and family scene matter together?
The two ending beats pull in opposite directions. Cooper and Tommy reach a more honest, forgiving place as father and son, while Cooper’s independent business decision draws him closer to a dangerous adversary. The family conversation gives Tommy emotional recognition; the Gallino reveal leaves the central business conflict unresolved.

Billy Bob Thornton told TV Insider that the scene drew on personal experience, saying, “I’ve got sons. I have a daughter. I had a difficult relationship with my dad. I mean, all those things are there. So I used life experience as an actor.” Sam Elliott also praised Taylor Sheridan’s writing in the interview, saying that the emotion comes from “working with great material that calls for whatever it calls for.” Their comments describe the actors’ approach and the scene’s emotional force; they do not settle every possible interpretation of the plot or predict what happens next.

Sonrisa funds Cooper’s operation without collateral. Cooper signed without asking a lawyer to review the contract, and Tommy grows suspicious when he hears the company’s name. The episode’s reveal of Gallino as the backer makes that financing arrangement more troubling.
Cami investigates MTex’s records
Cami and the team examine an unusual $420 million insurance settlement connected to a Louisiana gas-well blowout. She finds troubling paperwork in Monty’s office, but the episode does not resolve the questions surrounding the settlement and MTex’s records.
